STORY BEHIND THE
MAKING OF PKLI&RC
• According to the World Health Organization (WHO),
liver diseases are the 11th leading reason for
deaths in Pakistan with kidney diseases on the 12th
spot.
• There are approximately 10 million patients with
Hepatitis C and more than 5 million with Hepatitis
B in Pakistan
• 1 in every 3 Pakistani suffers from these life-
threatening ailments
• 40% of Pakistanis are suffering from kidney and
liver diseases, resulting in approximately 325
deaths daily.
EXCELLENCE IN HEALTHCARE
Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center (PKLI & RC) operates
autonomously under the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center Act
2019, which was enacted by the Provincial Assembly of Punjab and is overseen by an
Independent Board of Governors. Moreover, PKLI&RC has been granted approval as
Non-Profit Organization under section 2(36) of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. PKLI has
evolved into a national center of excellence for Liver, Kidney and Bone Marrow
Transplantation. Our pioneering expertise extends to Paediatric Transplantation,
Gastrointestinal diseases, Urogenital and Nephritic disorders.
Notably, the hospital has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing OVERVIEW
Pancreatic, Cadaveric and SWAP transplantations. In addition, PKLI has expanded its
resources by commissioning a Cyclotron facility, strengthening our in-house capabilities
for Radioisotopes production to facilitate PET/CT scans.
PKLI’s transformative journey has revolutionized healthcare in Pakistan, providing
premium medical services without discrimination. Around 75% of patients have either
received free or highly subsidized treatment.
