2. Mission:

To train and develop college students in the rudiments of military service in order to
produce capable reservists and future reserve officers of the Philippine Army.

3. Objectives:

a. To promote and protect the physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-
being
of the youth.
b. To inculcate patriotism among the youth.
c. To encourage their involvement in public and civic affairs.
d. To prepare and develop college students for possible service in the defense of the
state and in event of national emergency.
e. To train potential officers for possible commission in the Reserve Force, Armed
Forces
of the Philippines.

5. Narrative:

090800 September 2024 the University of Mindanao staged a momentous event as


they officially opened the Military Science curriculum for the academic year 2023–2024. LTC
REANDREW P RUBIO INF (GSC) PA, who held the distinguished roles of Guest of Honor
and Speaker and the Commandant, made the formal announcement. The event was graced
by the presence of SITTI ROGAIYA L. APADAN, the NSTP Coordinator, who delivered a
truly inspirational opening address.

160800 September 2023, the University of Mindanao Reserve Officers' Training


Corps Unit on their 2nd training day for the Military Science - 1 program at the UM Parade
Ground. The day was marked by the enthusiastic presence of TSg Marcial B Pahayahay
(Inf) PA, along with the training staff and advance ROTC Officers.
230800 September 2023, the University of Mindanao held its 3rd training day at the
UM Parade Ground, capturing the essence of practical military education. Transitioning to
the UM Social Hall, the cadets engaged in classroom discussions facilitated by the training
staff. SSg Rosel C Bandico (Inf) PA provided insights into the AFP Organization, while TSg
Ulysses Ryann E Algones PA (Res) delved into the realm of Military History.
300800 September 2023, The University of Mindanao ROTC unit started its 4th
training day which was a huge accomplishment. In the afternoon session, TSg Marcial B
Pahayahay (Inf) PA provided a brief discussion about the 44th National Reservist Week to
the cadets.
070800 October 2023, an important day unfolded in the lives of cadets as they
continued their 5th formation. The cadets engaged in a thought-provoking discussion of Pvt
Bern Bryan Libosada PA (Res) and Sgt Shyzl B Singco (RES) PA in their subject, Basic Life
Support. After that, Drills and Ceremony was discussed by CDT CPT JERIEL JAN F
SALADA (ROTC) 1CL and Code of Citizenship by CDT CPT BINMARC KING O ALAS
(ROTC) 1CL.
140800 October 2023, the 6th formation was an unequivocal success. The drills and
ceremonies segment of the training was a masterpiece of military precision, meticulously
guided by the seasoned hand of TSg Marcial B Pahayahay (Inf) PA. as the day drew to a
close, LTC REANDREW P RUBIO INF (GSC) PA, a source of inspiration to all, shared
meaningful words with every cadet.
200800 October 2023, the Cadet Officer Qualifying Course (COQC) Parents'
Orientation was a comprehensive event where attendees gained valuable insights into the
COQC Program. TSg Marcial B Pahayahay (Inf) PA, the UMROTCU Chief Clerk. TSg Dax
Kindle V Aznar PA (Res), a member of the training staff.
280800 October 2023, the dedicated members of the University of Mindanao
Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Unit showcased their unwavering commitment as
they persevered through their 8th training day
040800 November 2023, the 9th formation was an outstanding blend of productivity
and education, seamlessly fusing marching drills with enlightening discussions. The

educational segment led by 2LT ALLAN G SACOPAYO PA (NC) and 2LT CRISANTO R SIA
PA (RES) with the assistance of M16.
110800 November 2023, the 10th formation proved to be highly productive,
encompassing engaging discussions, a solemn ceremony, and meticulous drills. During this
session, TSg Ivan Julian O Mendez IV PA (Res) provided valuable insights on IED
(Improvised Explosive Device) Awareness, offering a comprehensive understanding of the
various types of landmines and body traps that cadets might encounter in real-world
scenarios.
180800 November 2023, the University of Mindanao ROTC Unit witnessed a defining
moment as 9 aspirants underwent the Cadet Officer Qualifying Course (COQC). LTC
REANDREW P RUBIO INF (GSC) PA, the esteemed Guest of Honor and Speaker,
represented by LTC RHOEL C TREMEDAL PA (RES). The event was graced by the
presence of MRS. NOVIGLEN O OLAIVAR, the UMROTCU. TSg Marcial B Pahayahay (Inf)
PA, the UMROTCU Chief Clerk, delivered an inspiring message.
250800 November 2023, the 12th training formation, cadets faced a climactic final
exam centered around mastering the intricacies of rifle handling. Regardless of their
individual roles in journalism, medicine, marching bands, or other specializations, every
cadet participated in the examination, leaving no room for exemptions.
020800 December 2023, the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations
(OG3), Reserve Command, Philippine Army showcased their commitment in ensuring the
preparedness and effectiveness of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Unit at the
University of Mindanao in Matina, Davao City. TSg Robert Ace J Gabertan (ARM) PA,
leading the team, along with Cpl Reyniel Medina (Inf) PA, and Pvt Joven Tamoradi (Inf),
spearheaded the inspection to assess the ROTC Unit's capabilities.
160800 December 2023, the closing ceremony of Military Science - 1 of the
University of Mindanao ROTC Unit commenced at the UM Parade Ground. LTC
REANDREW P RUBIO INF (GS) PA, standing in representation of LTC REY T ALVARADO
GSC (INF) PA, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. Mrs Noviglen O
Olaivar, the ROTC Coordinator, TSg Marcial B Pahayahay (Inf) PA, the Chief Clerk, and the
dedicated training staffs, gathered to witness the culmination of the cadets' rigorous training.

6. Assessment:
This unit was able to achieve its objective its objectives with the support of the school
administration and enthusiasm of the cadet’s despite of the limited resources.
