from Responsible Manager.

Create Calendar: Enterprise →Calendar→Global→Add. Select Corporate Standard Full Time to


make a copy. Name the calendar as FactoryCal. Modify the FactoryCal as follows.
1. Tick Default check box to set FactoryCal as default calendar
2. 9 hours work day on Monday to Saturday working: Select FactoryCal. Click on Modify→Total
work hours/day →Workweek. Input 9 hours for Monday to Saturday.
3. Set Start time of the day to 8 am and end time to 5 pm without break: Detailed work hours/day→
Workweek. Select all days from Monday to Saturday and make working time from 8 am to 5 pm.
4. Set the work hours in Time Periods. Click on Time Periods. Input 9 in Hours/day. Input 54 in
Hours/week.
5. Set 26th January, 2nd October, 15th August as holidays: Select the date in the month and click on
Nonwork.

Create New Project: Enterprise→Project. Select EPS, Thermal Power Division. Click on Add (+)

Input the following project details in the wizard.


Project ID: TH01
Project Name: Thermal Power500MW – Stage II Chennai
Project Planned Start: 27, January 2020
Responsible Manager: Click on Browse and select Project Manager

Assign Calendar to the project: Enterprise→Project→Defaults. Select project (Thermal


Power500MW – Stage II Chennai). Browse Calendar list and select FactoryCal.

(Note: Calendar will be assigned to the project if the calendar is created and set as default before
creating the project)

Create currency: Admin→Currencies→Add. Input the appropriate exchange rate with respect to
Base currency defined in the currency table.
Create Indian Rupee: Currency ID: INR, Currency Name: Indian Rupee, Currency Symbol: Rs.
Exchange Rate: input current exchange rate

Assign Currency: Edit→User Preferences→Currency. Browse the list and select INR
Close Project: File→Close All
Open Project: Enterprise →Project. Select project (Thermal Power500MW – Stage II Chennai).
Right click and select Open.

Create Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Project→WBS→Add (+)

Add Activities: Project→Activities. Select WBS Node and Click on Add (+). You can press insert
key on the key board to insert activities as well.

Create Activity ID: Insert first activity for a selected WBS. Enter the Activity ID (for example 1).
Further activity IDs will be created automatically. Repeat it for each WBS
Add activities for the project as given in the table below. Also input duration for each activity under
Original Duration

2. Click on Predecessor tab.
3. Click on Assign.
4. Select the activity in the activity table and assign predecessor from Assign Predecessor list.

Select Activity in Activity table, Right Click. Select Assign→Predecessor.

Point the predecessor activity to get zigzag line cursor. Drag to get a chain and drop it on the successor
activity

Add Lead or Lag and change relationship type

Method 1: Add positive duration for lag and negative duration for lead under Lag column and
Relationship Type column in Predecessor tab.

Point the Relationship Line between two activities in Gantt chart. Double Click.

Schedule the Project


1. Press F9 and click on Schedule. OR
2. Click on Schedule tool on tool Bar and click on Schedule. OR
3. Tools→Schedule and click on Schedule

To set Auto Scheduling On


Use any of the above to open Schedule dialog box (e.g. F9). Click on the Options button. Tick in the
check box: Schedule automatically when a change affects date.

Create Resource sheet


Enterprise→Resources→Add (Use Mover buttons to take it out of other node).

Create top node with following details

Project 2

Create a project to construct the road. The project has two major work packages, such as bridge
construction and subway & utility culvert. The details on WBS, tasks, predecessors are provided
below in Table 1.

Save the project as Road Project


Create a project calendar with following working details
Working days: Monday to Friday
Working times: 8 am to 5 pm. provide a lunch break between 1 am to 2 pm.
Project start date: 3rd February, 2020

1. Create project and save with name as Road Project, Create calendar and assign to project:

3. Link the tasks and create schedule, Find project duration, project finish date and total cost of
project.
4. Create resource sheet as provided in Table 2:
5. Load resource as provided in Table 3, level resources if required, find duration, finish date of the
project after leveling the resources.

View S-Curve (Enterprise →Tracking. Select the project to view earn values and S-curve)

Set the baseline and, update the progress based on following details.
a. Assume the project has started on time and work is completed as per schedule for first 15
days. Update the progress based on this assumption, view earn value table and S-curve.
b. Update the project second time assuming the first task is 100 % complete but second task
did not complete. View earned value table and S-curve.

Technology, Engineering, Construction, Cooling and Ventilation, Infrastructure Projects, Textile,
Mining and Manufacturing sectors, making them one of the most trusted and reliable engineering
solution providers.

The company has got a work to install HVAC services at Wipro ltd. The details of the project are
provided in the following section. Create EPS, OBS and project plan in P6 for the work.

Create the following for the project


1. EPS and OBS and WBS
2. Create Project and load resources
3. Create time schedule, resource schedule
4. Create resource graph, S-curve
5. Resolve over allocation if any
6. Create Report Group: Voltas (Tools→Reports→Report Groups→Add. Name it as Voltas.)
7. Create following reports under Report Group: Voltas
8. Summary and monthly Report (Select Voltas Group. Click on Add (+) to create new report)
a. WBS schedule (Hint: Select WBS, Select column fields: WBS Code, WBS Name,
Remaining duration, Start, Finish, Remaining Total Cost)
b. Resources cost summary (Hint: select Summary Resource assignment. Select column
fields: Resource ID Name, Budgeted Units, Budgeted Cost. Remove Indent and Select
Show Summary Only under Group and Sort option)
c. Create the above report scheduled on month. (Hint use time distributed data option.)

5. View Baseline Bar in Gantt Chart (Click on Bars tool on tool Bar. Click on Default. Tick Display
for Project Baseline)

Updating Actual Progress


Update 1
1. Update progress for first three activities to be completed on time. Click on the Progress Spot
light on tool bar. Drag the yellow line on Gantt Chart to select first three activities. Ensure
three activities are covered in the yellow spot light. Click Tools→Update Progress→All
highlighted activities→Apply. (Note when Progress spot light is used data date is
automatically picked up as per the progress spot light in Update)
2. View Earn Value. Enterprise→Tracking. Select the project to view S-curve and earn value
upto the data date.
3. Create report to show weekly progress of the activity and summary of activity progress

Update 2
1. Select forth activity. Click on Status tab in activity detail. Tick Started. Enter 100 %. Tick
Finished. Select Date in Finished 10 days later than the current Finished date to show delay.
Click on Schedule (F9 or Schedule tool on tool Bar etc.). Enter Data date as that of Finished
date. Click on Schedule.
2. Do step 2 and 3 as in Update 1.
Control Delays (Note: you must update the actual progress with delay)
By scheduling a specific activity on non-work day
1. Create a calendar making copy of the project calendar. (Enterprise →Calendar→Add)
2. Name it as “7 days work”
3. Modify if to make all 7 days working (Select calendar and click on modify. Total work
hours/day→Work week)
4. Select Activity to be brought back to baseline schedule and assign the calendar to it. (Click on
General tab in Activity detail. Assign calendar under Activity Calendar)

Adding more resources


1. Select the activity whose delay to be reduced.
2. Drag the current finish end of the activity bar and drop it to the level of baseline finish date.
OR
1. Select activity and edit the current Finish date to Baseline finish date in the status tab of
activity detail.
2. Check the resources load in resource tab of activity detail. Remaining unit per time will
automatically increase.

Schedule overtime work

Create summary and monthly report


1. Planned cost, actual cost, planned quantity and actual quantity of resources
2. Monthly planned and actual work of activities in cost
3. CV and SV of activity
4. Think of more such reports and create.
