TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
a. Routinary activity Please stand and let us pray first Class let us pray….……. amen.!
Good morning/ afternoon class! Good morning / afternoon sir!
Before we start kindly pick up the pieces of paper or trash (The learners pick up the trash and arrange their chair
under your chair. properly)
Let us check your attendance. Say present if your name (Learners will raise their hands)
is called.
Do we have an assignment? Kindly pass it in front. Yes sir!
A. Reviewing previous
lesson or presenting What was our topic last meeting?
the new lesson. Our topic last meeting is all about 30 ͦ60 ͦ90 ͦRight Triangle
Theorem.
Yes, that’s right!
I have here a problem. As a review, let’s try to answer the
given problem.
LET’S FIND IT!!!
Direction: Solve for the missing sides of the given right
triangles.
1.
x= .5 or 1/2
y= 1/2√3
2.
a=10
b=5√2
B. Establishing a
purpose for the Now let us proceed to the objectives of our lesson
lesson.
Everybody please read the objectives of our lesson
today. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to;
a. State the definition of Pythagorean Theorem.
b. Solve the missing side of a right triangle using the
Pythagorean Theorem.
c. Appreciate the value of Pythagorean Theorem in
real-life situation.
Okay, thank you.
C. Presenting Before we finally start our new lesson, I have a here a
examples/Instances of video presentation that will give you an insight about our
the new lesson new lesson.
Watch it thoroughly and familiarize the content of the
video.
Is that clear?
Yes, sir/ma’am!
(Video Presentation)
D. Discussing new Since we are done with the special triangles, we will now
concepts and move on to our new topic.
practicing new skills #
1 What did you observe in the Video Presentation?
What do you think is our topic for today? Based on the given video presentation and in our
objectives, I think our topic for today is about all
Pythagorean theorem.
That’s right!
Today, we will be discussing about Pythagorean
theorem.
Do you have an idea about what is about Pythagorean One of the best known and most useful mathematical
theorem? principles is the Pythagorean Theorem, credited to the
Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras.
Very well said!
E. Discussing new I have here a right triangle.
concepts and

a c
In this figure, what side of right triangle known as
hypotenuse.
Ma’am, the side c which is opposite the right angle is the
longest side
Very good!
How about the legs?
The other two sides, a and b are called the legs of the
right triangle
Very good!
Okay, who will read the definition of Pythagorean
Theorem? Pythagorean Theorem states that “In a right triangle, the
square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the
sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs”.
Using the given triangle above: c2 = a2 + b2
How can we prove this theorem?
To prove this theorem, a square figure consisting of four
right triangles and an inscribed square with c as its side
can be used.
Very good!
Observe that the legs of the four right triangles combine
to form a large square. If one side of the large square is
(a + b), its area is (a + b)2.
The area of each triangle is 𝑎𝑏 and the area of the
small square is c2. Thus, the area of the large square is
also 4 ( 𝑎𝑏) + 𝑐2 which is 2 ab + c2.
How can we express this quality?
this equality can be expressed as:
2 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑐2 = (𝑎 + 𝑏)2
2 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑐2 = (𝑎 + 𝑏) (𝑎 + 𝑏)
2 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑐2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏2
2 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑐2 = 𝑎2 + 2 𝑎𝑏 + 𝑏2
𝒄𝟐 = 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒃𝟐
Very good!
The Pythagorean Theorem can be used to find the length
of any side of a right triangle when the lengths of the
other two sides are given.
let’s have an example.
s m
Use the triangle on the right to determine the
third side given the following measurements.
Who will solve for;
A. s = 3 cm, t = 4 cm, m = ______
Solutions:
A. m2 = s2 + t2
m2 = 32 + 42
m2 = 9 + 16
m2 = 25
How about for; √
B. s = 7 cm, m = 25 cm, t = ______ m=±5
m = 5 cm
B. m2 = s2 + t2
252 = 72 + t2
625 = 49 + t2
625 – 49 = t2
576 = t2
t2 = 576
How about for ;
C. t = 3 cm, m = 4 cm, s = ______ 𝑡 = ±24
t = 24 cm
C. m2 = s2 + t2
42 = s2 + 32
16 = s2 + 9
16 – 9 = s2
7 = s2
s2 = 7
𝑠 cm
F. Developing mastery okay, let’s have another example.
(Leads to Formative
Assessment 3) If the foot of a 10-meter ladder is placed 6 meters from a
building, how high up the building will the ladder reach?
6m
Who will try to solve? Solution:
𝒄𝟐 = 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒃𝟐
102 = 62 + x2
100 = 36 + x2
100 – 36 = x2
64 = x2
𝑥2 = 64
𝑥 = ±8
x = 8 meters
Since we are dealing with measurements, we considered
only the positive value as possible answer. Therefore, the
ladder reached 8 meters high.
G. Finding practical Now, let us have a group activity, this side will be the
application of group 1, and this side will be the group 2.
concepts and skills in Directions: Find the length of the missing

your solution.
Group 1.
Group 1.
𝒄𝟐 = 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒃𝟐
82 = a2 + 62
64 = a2 + 36
64-36= a2
28 = a2
a2 = 28
√a = √28
a = ±2√7
a = 2√7
Group 2.
Group 2.
𝒄𝟐 = 𝒂𝟐 + 𝒃𝟐
202 = 152 + b2
400 = 225 + b2
400-225= b2
175 = b2
b2 = 175
√b = √175
b= ±5√7
b= 5√7

lesson. Pythagorean Theorem?
Used only in a right triangle. It is used to
find the length of the unknown side given
the lengths of its two sides.
Pythagorean Theorem states that “In a
right triangle, the square of the length of
the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the
squares of the lengths of the legs.
