OBJECTIVES
This chapter deals with the statement of the problem, objectives, hypothesis to
meet the objectives, limitations of the study and conceptual frame work which
provides frame of reference.
Objectives are the guiding force for a researcher throughout a study. The
explicit descriptions of objectives are essential to come out with the meaningful
research. The statement of the problem and objectives for the current study are as
follows:
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
“A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on
Knowledge Regarding Management of Selected Adolescent Behavioural Problems
and its Prevention Among B.ed students of a Selected B.ed College, Hassan.”
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
To assess the existing knowledge of B.Ed students regarding management of
selected adolescent behavioural problems and its prevention.
To evaluate the effectiveness of STP on selected adolescent behavioural
problems management among B Ed students.
To find the association between post test knowledge scores of B.Ed students
and their selected socio demographic variables.
HYPOTHESES
H1 : There will be significant difference between mean pretest and posttest
knowledge scores among B. Ed students.
H2 : There will be significant association between level of knowledge of B.Ed
students and their selected demographic variables.
VARIABLES
Dependent Variable: Knowledge of B. Ed students regarding management of
selected adolescent behavioral Problems and its prevention is the dependent variable
in this study.
Independent Variable: Structured teaching programme regarding management of
selected adolescent behavioral and its prevention.
Demographic Variables: Age, gender, religion, educational status of the father,
educational status of the mother, Annual income of family, place of residence, type of
family, previous information about Adolescent behavioral problems and source of
information.
OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS:
Assess: It refers to the process used to get information regarding knowledge of
adolescence in relation to behavioral problems.
Effectiveness: It refers to determine the extent to which structured teaching
programme has brought about the change in knowledge intended and is measured in
terms of post test scores.
Structured teaching programme: It refers to the well planned teaching information
to improve knowledge on management and prevention of behavioral problems among
adolescence.
Knowledge: “It refers to an understanding of behavioral problems management and
its prevention among B .Ed students expressed by responding to Structured
Knowledge Questionnaire.
Behavioral problem: It is defined as “The persistent undesirable conduct to the
demands and responsibilities of a situation usually found in adolescents”.
B. Ed Students: It refers to those students who have passed degree and enrolled to
Bachelor in Education Course of 2 years duration studying in selected B. Ed colleges
at Hassan fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
ASSUMPTIONS
Students may have some knowledge regarding behavioural problems
management and its prevention.
Students may be willing to express their knowledge through Structured
Knowledge Questionnaire.
DELIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
Study is delimited to the B. Ed students of selected B. Ed College at Hassan.
A sample size of 50 students.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Conceptual framework provides a certain frame of reference for clinical
practice, research and education.
Conceptual frame work is the conceptual under pinning of the study. It is a
group of concepts and a set of propositions that spells out the relationship between
them. Conceptual frame work is defined as a theoretical to the study problems that are
scientifically based, which emphasizes the selection, arrangement and classification of
its concepts. It states the functional relationship between events and is not limited to
statistical relationship. A model is used to denote symbolic representation of concepts.
The present study is intended to evaluate the effectiveness of structured
teaching programme in terms of improving the knowledge of B.Ed students regarding
selected behavioural problems management and its prevention.
The conceptual frame work for this study was based on Ludwig Von
Bertalanffy in 1968. General System Theory is used with certain modification and
was presented in the form of figure.
According to general system theory, a system is a set of interrelated
components and units interacting with each other in a boundary. The individual is
capable of taking energy and information from the environment and revealing them to
the environment. Because of this exchange, individual is an open system.
System model consist of three phases:
Input
Through put
Output
Input:
Input refers to the process by which the system receives energy and
information from the environment and man, which may be money, resources and
time. In the present study input refers to the pretest, assess the existing knowledge of
B.Ed students regarding selected behavioural problems management and its
prevention by administering structured questionnaire.
Through put:
Through put is the process that occurs at some point between the input and
output process, which enables the input to be transformed as output in such a way that
it can readily be used by the system. In this study throughput consists of preparation
and administration of structured teaching programme. Structured teaching programme
which consists of selected behavioural problems (smoking,Aggression, suicide,
Abnormal sexual behaviour) management and its prevention.
Output:
It refers to the result of change in knowledge found among B.Ed students
regarding selected behavioural problems management and its prevention. which is
measured by conducting post test. The change in knowledge is interrelated as
inadequate knowledge, moderately adequate knowledge and adequate knowledge.
Feed back:
In this study feedback is necessary to those who belong to the group that fall under
inadequate and moderately adequate knowledge group to reassessed the knowledge.
