Introduction
The word for “disciple” is a learner who follows a master teacher. In contrast to our current
era, learning in Jesus’ time was very relational and holistic. “Discipleship meant much more
than just the transfer of information. It referred to imitating the teacher’s life, inculcating his
values, and reproducing his teachings. Therefore, Christian discipleship connotes a
relationship with a master teacher, following them, and adhering to their way of life because
their teaching shapes your own worldview.
This paper will help formulate the six months long curricular lesson plan to disciple new
believers and prepare them for baptism. Like Apostle Paul said that new babies desire milk
and not solid food, this is true with discipleship, those whom the lord has chosen for
salvation will need closer spiritual naturing for them to grow spiritually.

This paper presents a six-month road map for discipleship, especially for those preparing for
baptism, the lesson formulated here can act both as teacher’s guiding manual and student
study manual. The following is a list of the formulated topics to help with this study.
1. New Birth - Biblical Foundation - The purpose of this is to affirm the new birth that
comes as a result of accepting Christ as Lord and Savior. What happens when a
person opens his or her heart to Jesus? How does the Bible explain this? meditating
on the word of God by following biblical texts, ask question and respond to the
questions mentioned using the bible text. Some of the good scriptures for such is.
Psalm 24:1-2; Psalm 139:13-15; John 3:16; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23 This will
provide you with necessary instruction as you mentor and disciple the new believers
in their journey of formation and growth. Here are several truths to share with the
person you are discipling: God is love; God created human beings; humanity is
separated from God because of sin; Jesus is the tangible expression of God’s love;
through Jesus we are made new and become part of the family of God. Remember
that the decision to surrender your life to Christ isn’t merely a religious change, nor
the product of emotional manipulation. Rather, it is a response to the love of God
expressed in the person of Jesus Christ, through the recognition that we need
forgiveness through repentance.
2. Commitment to Grow - Support the new believer in his or her commitment to grow in
the knowledge and grace of God, as the person continues this journey of new life in
Christ. Receiving Christ into our lives as our Lord and Savior implies a high level of
commitment. In accepting the invitation to live with Jesus the new believer begins a
fascinating journey as a disciple of Jesus. Observe carefully how this growth happens
within the context of community when we remain rooted in Jesus Christ and God’s
word.
The following scriptures are helpful to students for growth.
call to grow: 1 Peter 2:2-3; Ephesians 4:15.
Relationships with other believers: Hebrews 10:23-25; Ephesians 2:19-22; 1 John
1:3.
Remaining rooted in Christ: John 15: 1-5
Help new believers to cultivate the desire to commit to growing; we are called to grow
in love; our growth happens in community because now we are members of the family
of God; we should grow in our knowledge of Jesus; we can grow and bear fruit if we’re
rooted in Christ.

3. Prayer - Teach the new believers know the privilege that we can communicate with
God directly through prayer. Prepare the new believers to enhance their relationship
with God through prayer. Teach them to present themselves before God in prayer.
Prayer is one of the best ways you can prepare yourself to meet with the person you
are discipling. Praying more helps us to continue to grow and develop a life of prayer
so that we can serve as a model for new believers. He or she will learn how to pray by
watching how we pray. praying is not only for experts in the Christian faith; it is for all
believers and is a response to the new life we have in Christ. The following scriptures
are helpful to learn or teach about prayer.
Reasons to pray: Matthew 7:7-11.
How to pray: Matthew 6:5-13.
Obstacles in prayer: James 1:6-7
According to the Bible, we pray because we know God hears us. One of the things we
do in prayer is to present our petitions to God. When we pray, we are aware of God’s
presence and continual help in all circumstances. Some of the obstacles that get in
the way when we pray are our own doubts and sin.
4. The Word of God – explain to the new believer how God communicates with us today
in different ways, specifically through his son Jesus Christ, his word the Bible, and his
works through creation. the emphasis is on listening to the voice of God as you read
the Bible. Teach them to begin their preparation by asking that God would be revealed
to them through the Scripture. Listening to the voice of God is a spiritual practice that
is cultivated in our daily walk with God. That is why it is so important to take time daily
to meditate on Scripture, providing an example of how a disciple remains in and
obeys the word of God. help them meditate on the following biblical texts and write
what they teach about.
The voice of God: Hebrews 1:1-2.
The Bible as the word of God: 2 Timothy 3:16- 17.
5. Obedience to God – Highlight to the new believers that new life in Christ requires
obedience in order that we may grow in a good and healthy relationship with God.
new believers need to know that obedience distinguishes a true disciple of Jesus
Christ from a person who is not a disciple. When they surrender their life to Jesus,
they submit to God and recognize the authority that God has over their lives. John
15:4-10 is helpful to encourage new believers to be obedient to God.

6. Baptism – Teach the new believers what baptism is all about, it is a public declaration
of a person’s faith in Christ. It is a pronouncement of belief. It is a public way of saying
to everyone that you have decided to give your life to Jesus Christ. It is a point of
departure from old lifestyle and the start of life as a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
It is the means of bringing us into union with Christ and his body, the church. 1. An
illustration of Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. “Christ died for our sins. he was
buried. and he rose again.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “For when you were baptized, you
were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.” Colossians
2:12.
