functions.
B. Performance Standard: The learners will engage in active learning about parts of the plants
C. Learning Competency : The learners will have the opportunities for hands-on exploration
and application of knowledge about plant parts.

II. Subject Matter

a. Title: Part of the Plants

b. Science ideas:
c. Science Process: Observing, classifying, identifying, inferring
d. Value Focus: Appreciating the different parts of the plants
e. Reference: Google
f. Teaching Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Visual Aids,Plant Diagrams,
Illustrations.

III. Learning Activity

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Engage

1. Drill
Arrange the puzzle.

( the pupils will arrange the

puzzle)

2. Review

Class, what did we study last Maam, we study

time photosynthesis Yesterday
What can you say about Photosynthesis is the process by
photosynthesis? which plants use sunlight,
water, and carbon dioxide to
Very good ! create oxygen and energy in the
form of sugar.

What else?
Photosynthesis comes from two
Very good ! words photo meaning light and
synthesis meaning to make.
Okay, it only means that you really
learned from our lesson yesterday.

B. Explore
a. Motivation
I have a picture here , I want you to
say something about it.

( pupil’s answer may vary )

What can you say about the

picture?

Very good !

1. Presentation
a plant consists of four parts , roots,
stem, leaves and flowers. Each part
plays an important role.

The different parts of the plant

Roots of a plant mostly grow under

the soil. The roots hold firmly to the
ground absorb
water, salts and minerals from the
soil.

Types of roots
A. Tap roots -have a main or
central root, from which
smaller, thinner roots are arise
laterally.
Most trees and vegetables like
radish and carrot have tap roots.
B. Fibrous roots-have thin
branching roots arising from
the base of the stem.
Most of the grasses and ferns have
fibrous roots.
Coconut, banana ,grass onion
have fibrous roots

Stem holds the plants erect and

carries water and nutrients from the
roots to other parts of the plant.
Some of the stems are modified to
store food.

Flowers, leaves ,and fruits grow on

the stem.

Sugarcane, potato, ginger, onion,

lotus roots are stems that we eat.

The leaves of a plant are its

kitchen as chlorophyll.
The green pigment in the leaves
trap sunlight to make food. The
plant exchanges gases through the
stomata in some plants the leaves
are modified in order to store food.

A flower is the most attractive and

colorful part of a plant.
We often see butterflies, bees and
other insects visiting flowers,
because they are attracted by the
bright colors and the pleasant scent
of the flower.
Flower have nectar in them. This
nectar is food for the bees and
butterflies

Pollination- the transfer of

pollens,
A yellow and powdery substance
from one flower to other flowers of
the same plant or other plants with
the help of butterflies, air, or birds
is called pollination.

This helps flower to make seeds.

Most flowers grow into a fruits
which hold the seeds of the plant
and the deeds gro into new plants.

The flowers are generally known

as seed boxes of the plant,
usually when the flower of a
plant dries and falls off. It leaves
behind the fruit.

Remember: Uses of plants

( pupil’s answer may vary )
Apart from fruits, plants also give
a shade, help to keep a place
cool and bring in more rains.

C. Explain

a. Activity ( pupil’s answer may vary )

Match column A to column B

A B
1. Flower it holds to the
( pupil’s answer may vary )
ground to absorb
water
2. Leaves hold the plants
and carries water
from the roots to the other parts of
the plant.
3. Roots it is modefied
in order to store
food.
4. Stem seed boxes
of the plant.

b. Analysis

Now,give the functions of the

parts of the flower.

1. Roots
2. Stem
3. Leaves
4. Flower
5. Pollination
( pupil’s answer may vary )

Class why do you think plants is

( pupil’s answer may vary )
important in our life?

Very good !
[Link]
( pupil’s answer may vary )
Now, who can give an example
plants and identify its part and
functions. ( pupil’s answer may vary )

Very good class, you

really understand our ( pupil’s answer may vary )
lesson.
a. Pre activity ( pupil’s answer may vary )

Now, I will devide you into 2

groups.

I will give you a materials, ( pupil’s answer may vary )

construction paper, scissors, glue
and plant diagrams or illustrations.

Then you need to cut out the

( pupil’s answer may vary )
different parts of the plant from
the diagram and then,

Group 1 -label the parts of the

plant.
Group 2 - label and give the
function

Present your work in front of the

class.

C. Concluding Activities
1. Generalization

What are the 4 main parts of

the plants?

What is the function

of Roots

Very good

! Stem

Very good

! Flower

Very good

! leaves

Observe a in our
sorroundings, can you name a
plant and give its part and
functions?

3. Valuing

Why plants is important in our

lives?
