Needles: 16" circular US #8
16" circular US #9
#9 double point needles
Yarn: 1 skein of any yarn from the Knots of Love approved yarn
list. Available at www.knotsoflove.org

Instructions:
Using smaller #8 circular needle cast on 78 stitches. Join into a round
being careful not the twist at the join. Place stitch marker.
Knit 2, Purl 4 for 1 round.
Knit 2, Purl 4, all rounds until the piece is 2" in length. This forms the rib.
Change to larger #9 circulars and knit all rounds up to 5.5” to 6” (5.5” to 6” should cover the entire ear)
including the rib.
Crown Shaping: Each hat will have 6 sections of 13 stitches.
Rnd 1: *Knit 11 sts, knit 2 together. * Repeat Rnd 12: Knit plain
Rnd 2: Knit plain Rnd 13: *Knit 5, knit 2 together. * Repeat
Rnd 3: *Knit 10, knit 2 together. * Repeat Rnd 14: Knit plain
Rnd 4: Knit plain Rnd 15: *Knit 4, knit 2 together. * Repeat
Rnd 5: *Knit 9, knit 2 together. * Repeat Rnd 16: Knit plain
Rnd 6: Knit plain Rnd 17: *Knit 3, knit 2 together. * Repeat
Rnd 7: *Knit 8, knit 2 together. * Repeat Rnd 18: Knit plain
Rnd 8: Knit plain Rnd 19: *Knit 2, knit 2 together. * Repeat
Rnd 9: *Knit 7, knit 2 together. * Repeat Rnd 20: *Knit 1, knit 2 together. * Repeat
Rnd 10: Knit plain Rnd 21: *Knit 2, together.
Rnd 11: *Knit 6, knit 2 together. * Repeat
When circular needles become too long for the decreasing amount of stitches, begin knitting off onto double
point needles, 2 sections per needle. Or if you know how to work in the round with 2 circulars, divide the knitting
in half while knitting a round.
Only 2 stitches remain in each section. Cut yarn, leaving 12". Thread onto a tapestry needle and loosely thread
through the remaining stitches. Thread through a 2nd time and pull tightly to close the remaining hole. Thread to
inside and stitch in place to secure. Weave in and out of a few stitches, clip remaining yarn.
