Since the release of the TotalCare® Bed System Service Manual (man112re), minor
inaccuracies have been found that require updating. Listed below are the page numbers and
corrections that require updating. Mark these in your service manual. These corrections will

The TotalCare SpO2RT® Plus Pulmonary Therapy System sur­
face is a dynamic air surface, controlling bladder pressure as a
function of patient weight. The software uses patient weight (as
measured by the on-board scale) and head angle as inputs to an
algorithm to determine the appropriate pressure for each zone. A
seat deflate function allows easier ingress and egress from the
side of the bed by exhausting air from the working cushions,
which lowers the patient approximately 3" (8 cm) closer to the
floor.

Tools required: T25 Torx® screwdriver

Safety analyzer

Removal
1. Raise the bed to the high position.

WARNING:
Unplug the bed from its power source. Failure to do so could result in
personal injury or equipment damage.

2. Unplug the bed.

3. Disable the battery.

4. Remove the four screws (A) securing the center base cover (B) to the bed
(C) (see figure 2 on page 9).

5. Remove the center base cover (B).

6. Remove the two screws (A) securing the head end tub cover (D) to the bed
(C).

7. Remove the head end tub cover (D).

8. Remove the head end left caster cover (E).

9. Install the cylinder braces (see procedure 4.4).

10. Remove the two screws (F) securing the PCM cover (G) to the bed (see
figure 3 on page 10).

11. Remove the PCM cover (G).

CAUTION:
When handling electronic components, wear an antistatic strap. Failure
to do so could result in component damage.

12. Put on the antistatic strap.

13. Disconnect the power cable (H) from the PCM board (I).

14. Remove the screw (J) securing the ground strap (K) to the bed frame (L).

15. Remove the two nuts (M) securing the U-bolt (N) to the bed (C) (see figure
4 on page 11).

16. Remove the U-bolt (N).

17. Remove the power cord (H) from the bed (C).

Replacement
1. Perform the removal procedure in reverse order.

2. Using the safety analyzer, verify that the electrical ground resistance is less
than 200 milliohms.

3. Using the safety analyzer, verify that the leakage current is less than 100
milliohms.

4. To make sure bed operates correctly, do the “Function Checks’ on page 2­


10.

Pulmonary Surface—P1916EA
Tools required: None

Removal

NOTE:
Disassemble the pulmonary surface only to the level necessary.

1. Retract the foot section all the way.

NOTE:
It is not necessary to retract the foot section if the foot cushion is not to be
replaced.

2. Raise the bed to the highest position.

3. Make sure the sleep deck is in the flat position.

SHOCK HAZARD:
Failure to unplug the bed could cause personal injury or equipment
damage.

4. Unplug the bed from its power source.

SHOCK HAZARD:
Failure to disable the battery could cause personal injury or equipment
damage.

5. Disable the battery (refer to procedure 6.1).

6. Disconnect the mattress from the air manifold.

7. Unzip the upper ticking (A) from the lower ticking (B) (see figure 5 on
page 13).

8. Remove the upper ticking (A).

9. Remove the sheer liner (C).

10. Remove the O-ring (D) from around the snap disk (E) at the head end of
the fire barrier (F).

CAUTION:
Hose routing is very important for correct operation of the pulmonary
surface. Incorrect hose routing can easily cause kinked hoses or bed
malfunction.

12. Write down in detail the routing of all the hoses.

13. Remove the percussion/vibration cushion (G) as follows (see figure 6 on


page 14):
a. Release the Velcro®1 (H) on the head end of the percussion/vibration
cushion (G) that attaches it to the head section foam (I).
b. Disconnect the six snaps (J) on the ends of the percussion/vibration
cushion (G).
c. Disconnect the air hoses from the percussion/vibration cushion (G).
d. Remove the percussion/vibration cushion (G).

14. Remove the treatment cushion (K) as follows:


a. Remove the percussion/vibration cushion (G).
b. On both sides of the treatment cushion (K), disconnect the 16 snaps (L)
(eight per side) that attach the treatment cushion (K) to the substrate
(M).
c. Release the Velcro® (not shown) at the head end of the treatment
cushion (K) that attach it to the head cushion (N).
d. Disconnect the air hoses from the treatment cushion (K).
e. Remove the treatment cushion (K).

15. Remove the seat cushion (O) as follows:


a. Disconnect the 24 snaps (P) (12 on each side, 2 on each bladder) that
attach it to the substrate (M).
b. Disconnect the air hoses from the seat cushion (O).
c. Remove the seat cushion (O).

16. Remove the working cushion (Q) as follows:


a. Remove the percussion/vibration cushion (G).
b. Remove the treatment cushion (K).

c. On both sides of the working cushion (Q), at the head end, disconnect
the air hose located between the head bolster assembly (R) and the
substrate (M).
d. For each half of the working cushion (Q), disconnect the four snaps (S)
that attach the working cushion (Q) to the torso boost cushion (T).
e. Remove the working cushion (Q).

17. Remove the torso boost cushion (T) as follows:


a. Remove the percussion/vibration cushion (G).
b. Remove the treatment cushion (K).
c. Remove the seat cushion (O).
d. Remove the working cushion (Q).
e. At the foot end of the torso boost cushion (T), disconnect the air hoses
(U).
f. At the head end of the torso boost cushion (T), disconnect the air hoses
(V).
g. For each torso boost cushion (T), disconnect the four snaps (W) that
attach it to the substrate (M).
h. Remove the torso boost cushion (T).

18. Remove the head cushion (N) as the follows:


a. Release the Velcro®1 (X) that attach the head cushion (N) to the head
section foam (I).
b. Disconnect the two snaps (Y) that attach the head cushion (N) to the
two straps (Z).
c. Disconnect the air hose from the head cushion (N).
d. Remove the head cushion (N).

19. Remove the head bolster assembly (R) as follows:


a. Disconnect the two snaps (AA) that attach the head bolster assembly
(R) to the two straps (AB).
b. Slide the head bolster assembly (R) from inside the two straps (AB).

20. Remove the thigh bolster assembly (AC) as follows:


a. Disconnect the two snaps (AD) that attach the thigh bolster assembly
(AC) to the two straps (AE).

b. Slide the thigh bolster assembly (AC) from inside the two straps (AE).

21. Remove the foot boost assembly (AF) as follows (see figure 7 on page 17):
a. If installed, lift the foot cushion (AG) up and out of the way.
b. Disconnect the air hoses (AH) from the foot boost assembly (AF).
c. Disconnect the four snaps (AI) on the lower ticking (B).
d. Remove the foot boost assembly (AF).

22. Remove the foot cushion (AG) as follows:


a. Disconnect the 24 snaps (AJ).
b. Disconnect the air hoses (AK) from the foot cushion (AG).
c. Remove the foot cushion (AG).

Replacement
1. Do the removal procedures in reverse order.

2. Do the “Function Checks” on page 2-10.
