What is the basic
definition of Sukkot
Sukkot is one of the three major
festivals in Judaism and is celebrated
after yom kippur.
What is the basis for
Sukkot in the Bible?
Sukkot is a place where the Israelites had
homes and shelters for livestock and
themselves.
Here is the quote
( The festival is characterized by the erection of huts
made of branches and by the gathering of four species of
plants, with prayers of thanksgiving to God for the
fruitfulness of the land.
As part of the celebration, a sevenfold circuit of the
synagogue is made with the four plants on the seventh
day of the festival, called by the special name Hoshana
Rabba Great Hosanna”).
What are some modern day rituals
connected with Sukkot (find 3-5)? What
is the basis/rationale for doing these
rituals?
A - on Sukkot Jews built a tent called a sukkah
where they spend sukkot.
B - Jews are required to eat in the sukkah for eight
days.
C - In Sukkot, Jews are supposed to read the Torah
everyday.
D - One Sukkot tradition the etrog or citron, a fruit
similar to a lemon and the Lulav a bouquet made
out of palm, myrtle, and willow branches.
What is the significance of Sukkot
in Judaism?
The significance of Sukkot in Judaism
commemorates the 40 years of the Jews
looking for the Promised Land after escaping
from slavery in aciant Egypt.
What lessons are "learned" from
Sukkot
It is to give to the children of
palestine/israel so they will harvest
and then feed the people/children for
five days and to be stick/one being
with nature.
