Capstone essay
My name is Lillie Hall. These are the reasons why I want to be in the healthcare field.
Even when I was small I always wanted to help others, and it has stuck with me until
now. What made me want to be a part of the healthcare field even more is when my
mom got sick. She had a tumor on the back of her head and I watched her suffer in pain
and I couldn't help her. She kept waiting to get the surgery she needed. The week that
she was supposed to get it done she had passed. She is the reason why I wanna help
people that are in pain and help see them not hurt anymore.
What exactly do I want to do? Well I would really love to be a travel nurse,
having the opportunity to go around the state and hopefully the world to help people. If
not that, I would also love to be an ultrasound technician and getting the chance to help
mothers see their babies and how healthy they are is really interesting to me. But I think
I'm leaning more towards being an ultrasound tech.
How I'm gonna succeed and make it to where I wanna go? I want to go to
Gwinnett technical college. They have a really good sonography program so you can
learn and have more experience in school and out in the real world. To get into Gwinnett
technical college you will need a 2.0 or higher GPA. You will have to go to school for
around 2 years so then you will have your associate's degree. Gwinnett tech is in
Lawrenceville Georgia so I won't have to go that far and receive the education I will
need.
What would you need to be an ultrasound tech? I will need to finish high school
and get my diploma. Once I get done with that I will need to complete a formal
education program and get my associates degree. I will also be required to complete
clinical education. Once done with all of the education requirements. I will need to take
the proper licensing exams to be a licensed ultrasound technician.
The skills to become an ultrasound tech are love anatomy, be detail oriented, and
have precise attention to imaging protocols, etc. You will also need to understand
technology which I feel like I'll be good with since I went to a technology school. I also
understand a lot about technology. You will also need to be a person that really pays
attention to detail.
How much does ultrasound tech make? In Georgia ultrasound techs make
$49.50 per hour and $102,953 per year. The reason why they make that much money is
because hospitals and healthcare systems serve large populations of patients.
What are Ultrasounds and how do they work? Ultrasounds are sounds that travel
through soft tissue and fluids, but it bounces back, or echoes, off denser surfaces.
Sonograms which are another word for ultrasound do not use any radiation so there is
no harm to you. Sonogram techs can show the baby growing in the mothers stomach.
Not only can they see a baby growing, they can also see if you have kidney stones,
gallstones, and they can even see your thyroid and a bunch of other things.
What is the importance of ultrasound tech? Ultrasound techs help doctors diagnose and
treat many different medical conditions. Since ultrasound is a non-invasive way to
visualize internal organs, it is often the first imaging test performed when disease is
detected. Sonographers are highly trained in using specialized equipment to create
images of the body's internal organs and tissues.
The cost of an ultrasound is affordable. The cost of one is between $200 to $800. It's
not thousands of dollars just to see the stuff that's wrong with you or to see your baby.
The reason why it's cheap is because a private provider can charge less than a hospital
since they do not have to cover overhead expenses. How long the ultrasound can
actually take up to 20 to 40 minutes just depends on why you're getting done.
Day to day life as an ultrasound tech. What it looks like in the day of an ultrasound tech
would be, A sonographer usually works an eight-hour shift and during that time
completes 10-12 or more ultrasound scans. Along with the required paperwork
and documentation.
What is the hardest part about being an ultrasound tech? They work very long
and varying work hours. Ultrasound techs work in hospitals and clinics which stay open
very late. Some techs work overnight and on weekends so you can give the best to your
patients. Some patients will be struggling with difficult emotional situations but you're
just gonna have to sit and help them through.
You also have to give them space to cope with the news you gave them. Sonography
and also Can Be Physically and emotionally Demanding You will need to position
patients, which can require turning them over or lifting them into place. You may push a
patient in a wheelchair, help them enter a room and stand or sit. You also may need to
push portable ultrasound machines into a patient's room.
How many different sonogras are there? The types are external, internal and
endoscopic ultrasound scans. The external ultrasound is most often used to examine
the heart or an unborn baby in the womb. It’s also used to scan to see your liver
kidneys, and other organs they might need to see and take exams of. The internal
ultrasound is used to look at the female uterus ovaries, tubes, cervix and the pelvic
area. It’s just to make sure everything is okay. What does endoscopic ultrasound
use for so your doctor will insert a thin, flexible tube which is called the endoscope down
your throat and into your stomach. The tube they put down your throat has an
ultrasound device at the end of it.
