In the first week of our capstone class, a group project was allocated. Now it is 4 th and 5th week, we
are working on finding companies and waiting for their response. However, some companies straight
away refused and we were almost hopeless due to fewer contacts in Canada. Now our professor Joan
Kinsey is helping us to locate training opportunity with companies for an entire class. She is actively
engaged in reaching out to companies and networking with individuals and her clients to secure a
short-term training for us. We all are hoping for positive results. At this point of time, I felt shared
sense of responsibility and a desire to succeed as a team.
1. Major Steps of Project Propose and Specific Objective
Since the group project was allocated to our team in the initial weeks and we are in the planning
phase till now as we are still searching for companies. During project kick-off meeting, we already
discussed about the project, its deadline, the duties and responsibilities of each team member, and the
process that we will follow to meet the deadline; however, we extended the project deadline in last
meeting of our team. We also discussed the new ideas for approaching the companies through direct
email to HR using LinkedIn and other platforms and we are expecting to get favorable results.
2. Team Reflection and Group Dynamics
Teamwork: I am happy to see that our team is working well and growing together with each other.
Each team member's roles and responsibilities have been clearly defined, ensuring everyone knows
their contributions and responsibilities. In last meeting, we discussed the teamwork that we did
together and our improvement areas as a team. We also decided to exchange the interpersonal skills
of each other.
Group Dynamics: Our team has had positive group dynamics. During the team meeting, each team
member actively listens and respects the viewpoint of every team member. Because of the mutual
respect and trust we've developed, every team member now feels comfortable expressing their
thoughts and ideas. We value team members' perspectives and implement the ideas with consensus.
Conflict Resolution: Our team has a positive dynamic. Whenever we face some issue, we clearly
discuss the problem and find a solution quickly without lingering on it, which develops a stronger
working relationship between team members. We always see conflicts as an opportunity to bring the
positive change to the team.
3. Action Learning
I recognized the failures and setbacks of our team. These failures are valuable sources of learning.
When a particular idea fails or does not yield the expected result, the team tries to figure out the
reason for the failures and ensure what can be done in the future. We also encourage sharing of
knowledge among team members as they have their expertise in different sphere.
4. Personal Leadership, Motivational Style, and Application of Weekly Course Content Learning
and Application
Personal leadership development: I learned about my strengths, weaknesses, values and how they
affect my leadership style. Leadership requires adaptability to changing circumstances, and I now
have a better understanding of managing time and priorities, which also play a significant role in
leading a team.
Motivational Style: Through the entire process till now, I discovered that keeping myself motivated
first is most important to keep the team motivated. I now know how to boost the group and adjust
myself accordingly. I believe that a motivated team can bring the more positive outcome on table
and keep growing positively.
Learning and Application: The learning experience has been beneficial until now and it will
continue to be helpful until the project is finished. As indicated above, I've learnt a lot about
cultivating motivational and leadership qualities. The course assignments, group projects, and
conversations have offered critical thinking practice opportunities, which is essential for project
management.
