What is communication?

Communication is the exchange of information, ideas, and feelings between two or more people
through various mediums such as speech, writing, or body language. It is a fundamental human
activity that plays a crucial role in conveying thoughts, emotions, and intentions to others.
Communication can occur in various contexts, such as personal relationships, business, politics,
and social interactions, and it can take different forms, including verbal, nonverbal, written, and
visual. Effective communication is essential for building and maintaining relationships, resolving
conflicts, making decisions, and achieving common goals.
Introduction – Communication

The word “communication” derived from the Latin word ‘communicare’ that means to impart, to
participate, to share or to make common. It is a process of exchange of facts, ideas, opinions and
as a means that individual or organization share meaning and understanding with one another. In
other words, it is a transmission and interacting the facts, ideas, opinion, feeling and attitudes.
It is the ability of mankind to communicate across barriers and beyond boundaries that has
ushered
the progress of mankind. It is the ability of fostering speedy and effective communication around
the world that has shrunk the world and made ‘globalization’ a reality. Communication had a
vital role to play in ensuring that people belonging to a particular country or a culture or
linguistic group interact with and relate to people belonging to other countries or culture or
linguistic group. Communication adds meaning to human life. It helps to build relationship and
fosters love and understanding. It enriches our knowledge of the universe and makes living
worthwhile.

Communication - Definition
Communication may be defined as interchange of thought or information between two or more
persons to bring about mutual understanding and desired action. It is the information exchange
by
words or symbols. It is the exchange of facts, ideas and viewpoints which bring about
commonness of interest, purpose and efforts.

Difference between communication and communication skill

Communication refers to the act of conveying information or ideas from one person to another,
through various means such as speaking, writing, gesturing, or using visual aids. Communication
is a fundamental human activity that is necessary for social interaction, sharing knowledge, and
building relationships.
Communication skills, on the other hand, refer to the ability to effectively and efficiently convey
information or ideas to others through various means. Communication skills include the ability to
listen actively, speak clearly, write effectively, use nonverbal cues appropriately, and tailor
communication to suit different audiences.
In summary, communication is the act of conveying information, while communication skills
refer to the abilities and techniques used to effectively convey that information. Good
communication skills are important for success in many aspects of life, including personal
relationships, academic or professional pursuits, and leadership roles.
