DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 8 ENGLISH

Most Essential Learning Competencies: Explain figurative language used (EN8LT-IIId-2.2.4)

Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of: Southeast Asian literature as mirror to a shared
heritage; coping strategies in processing textual information; strategies in examining features of a
listening and viewing material; structural analysis of words and propaganda techniques; and
grammatical signals for opinion- making, persuasion, and emphasis.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive speech based on an
informative essay featuring use of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals
for opinion-making, persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, Stance, and
behavior.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson 85% of the students will be able to:
 Identify and define simile and metaphor
 present a role play using figurative language in various context; and
 appreciate the value of figurative language in writing and in everyday living

DIFFERENTIATED ACTIVITIES: ROLE PLAYING!

Directions: Follow the given tasks assigned to each group. Present it

Group 1- The students will be able to show a situation where a certain place
or community was hit by a disastrous typhoon and a newscaster is (Group 1 Presentation)
broadcasting live and did an interview with one of the affected citizens. The
victims of the typhoon was asked by the newscaster about what happened
to their family or home and what they did to survive. The interviewee will
then answer the newscaster using figurative language (simile and metaphor)
to describe their tragic experience during the typhoon.

Group 2- The students will be able to show a situation where a happy family
is being portrayed that shows respect to one another specially their parents
and the elders. While having a meal, one of the child suddenly run to the
bathroom and vomited. Her family found out that she’s pregnant. Despite of (Group 2 Presentation)
the situation they still manage to accept the child and go along with her to a
hospital for a check-up. The girl along with her mom will tell the doctor about
what she feels and experience using figurative language.The doctor will then
do a test to find out what's behind it. After some tests, the doctor will tell
them the result: the reason she was feeling weird is because she is
pregnant. The doctor will then advise them on what to do to handle her
pregnancy well.

Group 3- The students will be able to show and act out a scenario where
they will be talking and boasting about their latest model of computer tools at
home (laptop, printer, computer set, etc.). Draw the computer tools to clearly
emphasize its appearance in front of your classmates. Another member (Group 3 Presentation)
could play the role of narrator to explain the whole scenario and describe
each tool using figurative language. Maximum of 3 tools only.
