Thank you for purchasing the BYTETRONIK
MINIFLASH FullAcess (FA53).
FA is the world’s first and only mini cooper ECU/DME
tuning software created from ECU reverse
engineering. Giving Full Access to the greatest available
number of maps for the mini cooper (r50, r52 and r53
series, currently). Allowing for a better tune of the
ECU and thus a more efficient engine operation.
*MINIPort functions as a unique OBD II and logging
tool allowing for a much better and detailed tune of
each engine. On this manual we will refer only to it’s
use along with FA on reading tunes, flashing tunes,
resetting adaptations and clearing DTCs.
The following step by step guides will help you with all
of these operations.

First of all let’s identify what is in the package.
*(We will describe only parts needed to perform the specific series of tasks described on this
manual. User’s having purchased MTX AFR kits will receive more parts which are not required
to our current tasks.)
1. MINIPort device
2. OBDII extension cable *(for those having
purchased)
3. FA software *(note you have to register on our
forum so as to get access and download the latest
version of FA software)

Since we are familiar with hardware and it’s
ports and connectors we can proceed with
the rest of the process needed to perform
each task (read tune, flash tune, reset
adaptations and clear DTC).
Monday, March 12, 2012
First we need to execute FA.
*(FA needs to be installed on your computer along with you ECU as
well. You can refer to the corresponding manual for loading FA on your
ECU and your computer.)
Click on the Fa icon so
as to execute FA on you
computer.

requested
from FA to
perform.
Current Rom Metadata:
Here you can see the Rom info and all available
maps you can tune on the opened rom file.
Available maps are registered in groups. For
example: we have Timing maps, Fuel Maps, Fan
control Maps, Idle Maps,Throttle Maps, etc.

Monday, March 12, 2012
Now that we are familiar with FA and it’s main screen, we will
describe what “Read a Tune” is and how to perform it.
-Reading a Tune is the procedure while we read/obtain the tune which is already flashed on our ECU.
-with FA running, connect MINIPort to the computer using the usb to mini-usb cable.
An autoplay message will appear asking you to
view files on MINIPort. (MINIPort has an sd
card attached, so the computer can see it as a
drive. Opening it will reveal the files on the sd
card. These are log files and configuration files.
Really important not to delete or alter in any
way the configuration files, except if you wish
to use with virtual dyno*)
* You can set the configuration files as advised Also you will notice a new icon on the
by the virtual-dyno options so you can create FA screen. An icon showing a chip and a
logs which can be used by virtual-dyno. In such blue arrow, which stands for “Read
case keep a backup of the original ones. Tune”.

page 14
-Connect MINIPort to the OBDII directly or using the OBDII
extension cable.
-Then click the icon with the chip and the blue arrow (Read Tune) or
go to menu “ECU” and select “Read Tune from ECU”
A message will appear asking you to
connect MINIPort to OBDII port,
turn the ignition to position “`ON”
and press “OK” button.
Monday, March 12, 2012
page 15
-insert the key on the ignition and turn
“ON” the ignition, last key position
before igniting the engine. All the
warning lights and engine check light
will lit.
(*You will also notice one more new
icon on the FA screen. An icon showing
a chip and a red arrow, which stands for
“Flash Tune to ECU”.)
Monday, March 12, 2012
-Proceed clicking “OK” button
The following screen will appear as the process will begin:
You can see info on the “Task Info” screen
along with a progress bar. page 16
Monday, March 12, 2012
When operation completes a message will appear prompting you to “Turn the ignition off”
Do so and click “OK” button.
You can notice on the
“Open Rom Documents” a
new file named “read
image*” this is the image
that was just read out from
your ECU.
page 17
Monday, March 12, 2012
To save the rom file we just read out of the
ECU go to menu: File - Save Rom As
Select a desired
destination and name
for the new rom file
and save it.
*You can use the rom
file you did read from
your ECU to tune your
ECU maps. In such case
it would be better to
keep this rom as a
backup file and save any
changes under a new
rom file name.
page 18
Monday, March 12, 2012
Flashing Tune To ECU
Flashing Tune to ECU is the procedure while we replace the current tune on
the ECU with a new rom file that we want to flash.
To Flash a Tune to ECU, we go on FA under menu File - Open Rom and we
choose the appropriate Rom file we wish to flash on our ECU.
Select the rom file
and click open.
page 19
Monday, March 12, 2012
The following screen will appear showing your opened Tune (in
Open Rom Documents) *in our example the file is named “tune1”
page 20
Monday, March 12, 2012
Ensure that MINIPort is connected to your computer via usb to page 21
mini-usb cable. Then connect MINIPort to OBDII port directly or via
OBDII extension cable.
Click on the icon with
the chip and the red
arrow or go to menu
ECU - Flash Tune to ECU
You will see a message prompting you to connect
MINIPort to OBDII port, turn the ignition to the “ON”
position and press “OK”.
*Turn ignition to “ON” position as described on
“Reading Tune” Chapter (page 15).
Monday, March 12, 2012
The procedure will start and FA will flash the tune file on your ECU.
IT IS REALLY CRITICAL NOT TO STOP OR INTERFERE IN THE OPERATION UNTIL IT IS COMPLETED.
You can see info on the
procedure on the “Task
Info” screen.
There is also a progress
bar on the bottom.
page 22
Monday, March 12, 2012
When the operation completes you will get the following message:
“The operation completed successfully. Turn the ignition off”
Do so.
*Do not ignite the car directly
after flashing the tune, without
turning first off the ignition as
advised.
Now the new tune is flashed in your ECU and you engine will operate
according to this tune. page 23
Monday, March 12, 2012
When the operation completes you will get the following message:
Possible error On Flashing Tune To ECU
Before starting the operation to flash the tune to ECU, there is a safety parameter which
checks the current voltage on the system. If voltage is found bellow 12v the operation will be
aborted automatically popping an error message. (info can be seen on the “Task Info” screen)

a
