How many layers of cubic
centimeters will it take it to fill the 4 layers of cubic centimeter
box?
Excellent
40 cubic centimeter
What are the total cubic
centimeters are needed to fill the
box?
B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation

2. Activity cubes.
I will group you into 3 groups,
each group will receive a
envelope, inside the envelope
there is a task that you need to
be done by group. After you do
your task, show in front how you
finished the group task.
Criteria:
Task for Group 1:
Solve Me: Solve the given by
using the formula of V= s x s x s
S= 4cm
V=?
Task for Group 2:
Choose Me: Find the correct
answer of the given by using the
formula. V= l x w x h
2cm
3cm
5cm
Choices: ( The students will do their task per
group and will present it in the front)
a. 25cm3 c. 30cm3
b. 45cm3 d. 50cm3
Task for Group 2:
Solve Me: Solve the given by
using the formula of V= s x s x s
S= 4cm
V=?
Task for Group 3:
Problem: A drawer is 5 ft width, 4
ft length and 2 ft tall. What is the
volume of the drawer?
Using the formula of V= l x w x h
answer the question.
3. Analysis
In our activity, what did you
observed? We encounter different kinds of shape
and formulas.
Very good
Based on the work of group 1
and 2. How they can answer the We answer the following given by using
following given? the formula given to us.
Excellent
Are you familiar with those Yes
formulas?
Very good
Based on our activity, do you
have any idea what is the topic
for today? Volume
Good Job
But before anything else do you
have any idea what is volume?
Volume (V)
-Volume is the amount of space
that a substance or object
occupies.
-is the number of cubic units
needed to fill the shape.
Volume is three-dimensional
(3D), compose of the area of the
base (length x width) times the
height. That is why it is always in
cubic units (in3 cm3 m3 etc.)
A cube is an example of a solid
figure that is three-dimensional.
Since all the faces of the cube
are squares, then the length, the
width and the height are all equal.
The sides of the square are
called edges of the cube and is
symbolized by s. Thus, the
volume is s x s x s or s3.
Example in the work of Group
1
The Edges of a cube measure
4cm. To find the volume of the
cube they used the formula V= s
xsxs
Given: S= 4cm
V= 4 x 4 x4
V= 64 cm3
The volume of the cube is
64cm3.
We know that for a rectangular
prism, the base is always a
rectangle. Therefore, the area of
the base is always the product of
it’s length and width. To get the
Volume, we just multiply the area
by the height.
Example in the work of group 2
The length of the rectangular
prism measures 5cm the width
measures 3cm and the height
measures 2cm. To find the
volume of the given rectangular
prism they used the formula V= l
xwxh
Given:
L= 5cm
W= 3cm
H= 2cm
Let’s distribute it using the
formula.
V= l x w x h
V= 5 x 3 x 2
V= 30 cm3
The volume of the rectangular
prism is 30cm3
Example:
The aquarium is a example of
rectangular prism.
The measure of the length is
12cm, width 8cm and height is
10cm. Find the volume of the
aquarium.
Formula: V= l x w x h
V= 12 x 8 x 10
V= 96 x 10
V= 960 cm3
The volume of the aquarium is
960 cm3
3cm
3cm
3cm
Next example is the Rubik’s
Cube this figure is an example of
Cube figure. The measurement of
its edges is 3cm. What is the
volume of Rubik’s cube?
Formula: V= s x s x s
Given:
S= 3cm
V= 3 x 3 x 3
V= 9 x 3
V= 27cm3
The volume of the Rubik’s
Cube is 27cm3.
The volume can be use in a
situational scenario. Where in we
can encounter volume in our daily
routine.
Example in Group 3:
Problem: A drawer is 5 ft width, 4
ft length and 2 ft tall. What is the
volume of the drawer?
Using the formula of V= l x w x h
answer the question.
Given:
L= 4 ft
W= 5 ft
H= 2 ft
Formula: V= l x w x h
Distribute:
V= 4 x 5 x 2
V= 40 ft3
The volume of a drawer is 40ft3.
For another example:
A. A stockroom is 10 m long, 10
m wide and 10 m high. How
many cubic meters of space
in the stockroom.
Understand
a. What is asked? How many
cubic meters of space in the
stockroom?
b. What are the given facts?
Plan
Identify the given
Multiply using the formula
Solve
Distribute the given using the
formula of the cube.
V= s x s x s
V= 10 x 10 x 10
V= 1000 m3
There are 1000m3 of space in
the stockroom.
B. How much salt is needed to
fill a pit that is 10 m deep, 8m
wide, and 12 m long?
Understand
a. What is asked? How many
needed to fill the pit?
b. What are the given facts
Plan
Identify the given
Multiply it using the formula
Solve
Distribute the given using the
volume formula for
rectangular prism.
Given: L= 12m
W= 8m
H= 10m
Solution:
V= l x w x h
V= 12 x 8 x 10
V= 960 m3
The volume of the pit is 960
m3.
Now try to solve this given on
the board.
Do you understand our topic
for today?
(Let the students answer the given on
Very good the board.)
4. Abstraction
So what do we call the amount of
space occupied in an object? Yes
Very good
Again what is the formula of
finding the volume of a cube?
Volume
Excellent
How about the formula of finding
the volume of rectangular prism?
V= s x s x s or V=s3
That’s right
5. Application
Problem: V= l x w x h
The Municipality of Montalban
donated a cabinet to the E-library
located at Brgy. San Isidro
Montalban Rizal. A book place in
a cabinet with 10 layers of 25
books in each 15 rows. What is
the volume of a cabinet using the
books?
Question:
What is asked?
What are the given facts?
Solution:

3. L= 5cm
W= 2cm
H= 5 cm
V=?
4. S= 6 m
V=?
V= 50 cm3
5. A desk is 1.5 feet wide and
5 feet long. It is 3 feet
above the floor. What is
the volume of space under V= 216 m3
the desk?
L= 5 ft
