Analysis
Based on the viewed video, you provide the required details in the Frayer Diagram Model below.
Use the following points as a guide to accomplish this task.

A. Viral Classification
• In this section, supply the details of the classification of your selected virus. Take note
that this does not mean how a virus is classified. However, this section of the Frayer Diagram
Model seeks to know what family or genera the identified virus belongs to.
B. Clinical Features
• What are the characteristics of the identified virus? Is it rod-shaped? Is it helical? Does it
have spikes?
C. Impact on Organisms
• How would the virus impact or affect other organisms, especially humans, animals,
plants, or other microorganisms?
D. Interdisciplinary link
• If the identified virus causes harm, provide some insights on how microbiology or other
branches of science can provide a solution.
Viral Classification Clinical Features

The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) belongs The virus looks like a crown under the miroscope, hence the name
coronavirus and it causes common diseases among human, ranging
to the family of coronaviruses. from the common cold to mild or moderate respiratory illnesses .

It is really affects to human, potentially causing severe The study of microbiology can be very helpful in figuring out
respiratory illnesses. And it can transfer from animal species to how the virus spreads and stopping it. Additionally, other
the population of humans. scientific disciplines like epidemiology can help monitor and
control the virus's spread.

Application

Instruction: Read and understand the following situational questions below. Please take note that
the following situations are not based on reality. Any resemblance to a person’s real-life
experience is just a mere coincidence. Please carefully think and construct your thoughts before
putting them into writing.

1. In 2015, a seafarer ventured overseas to look for greener pastures while his wife was left here
in the country to tend to their child. In 2020 (after spending five years) on a cruise ship, the
seafarer settled down in the country where his wife and child are. At the end of 2020, the wife
contracted genital warts. The warts are caused by the human papilloma virus, a common sexually
transmitted infection. What are the things that can be implied from this situation? What does the
future hold for them?

Ans: This situation suggests that the seafarer may have had sex with someone else while he was
employed by the cruise line, which could have resulted in the human papillomavirus (HPV) being
transferred to his spouse. Genital warts are a sign of a possible adultery and a breakdown of trust
in a relationship. In order to restore trust and communication in their relationship, they may need
to deal with the emotional stress the scenario has produced, seek medical attention for the wife's
health, and possibly go through counseling or therapy. If they decide to continue together, they
might have to prioritize being open and honest with each other going forward, set limits, and try
to mend their relationship.
2. Meal prices in XYZ mall have been very competitive. To attract more customers, Ms. Sanders
who is the owner of ABC Beef Restaurant needs to bring the prices of her meal lower than her
competitors. To do that, she sourced her beef from a farm that sells dead cows for a cheaper price
compared to Ms. Sanders’ former source. How can this practice of Ms. Sanders affect her
customers and how can her action affect the local food industry in her area?

Ans: Lower-quality meat might be served at Ms. Sanders' restaurant because of her choice to
purchase cattle from a farm that offers deceased animals for less money. Customers may
perceive a decrease in taste or freshness as a result, which could make them unhappy.
Furthermore, her restaurant may lose the image and trust if Ms. Sanders' competitors uphold
higher standards for their ingredients. Furthermore, if more eateries decide to put money before
quality, her move may have an impact on the neighborhood food business by lowering costs and
standards of quality.

Assessment Tasks

A. Illustration
Instruction: Read and understand the question. Please carefully think and construct your thoughts
before putting them into writing.

1. Create a Venn diagram that would compare and contrast viruses, viroids, and prions in
clinical features and impacts on other organisms.
2. Compare and contrast the lytic cycle and lysogenic cycle using a Venn diagram.

B. Fill the table with the required data: Select at least 10 Genera of viruses that you think are
prevalent in your community and give their corresponding clinical or special features.

Important Genera Clinical/ Special Features

1. Coronavirus Respiratory illness, including severe cases like

COVID-19
2. Human immunodeficiency Leads to AIDS, a progressive failure of the immune
virus (HIV) system
3. Dengue virus Causes dengue fever, a condition spread by
mosquitoes that resembles the flu and can have
serious side effects include shock syndrome or
hemorrhagic fever.
4. Rotavirus Common cause of severe diarrhea in infants and
young children
5. Hepatitis virus Liver inflammation, various types (A, B, C, etc.)
6. Herpesvirus Causes cold sores, genital herpes, and chickenpox
7. Measles virus Highly contagious viral infection causing fever and
rash
8. Enterovirus Various illnesses including hand, foot, and mouth
disease (HFMD)

9. Influenza virus Respiratory illness, seasonal outbreaks

10. Papillomavirus Associated with warts and certain types linked to

cervical cancer.
