Memories
Sara
I was in the street with Dad and I saw someone on the other side of the street. ‘That’s my friend
Yasmina,’ I thought. ‘Yasmina!’ I yelled, and the girl turned round, but it wasn’t Yasmina. ‘Oh
no!’ I thought. I was so embarrassed. Dad just laughed and laughed. When we got home, I
called Yasmina and told her the story. She laughed a lot, too!

Djamel
I was at my grandparents’ house, in their garden. Suddenly, there was a little sound just near
me, on the ground. ‘What’s that?’ I thought. ‘That’s a bit strange!’ I sat down and listened and
looked carefully. A big leaf moved. ‘Oh no!’ I thought. ‘Is it a snake?’ I was scared. Then, a tiny
little mouse ran out from under the leaf. It was more scared than me!

Ollie

One day, when my friend Pavel was in hospital, I walked past a bookshop with my mum. In the
window, there was a big book of inventions. We went into the shop and I laughed when I looked
at the inventions in the book, because they were so crazy. ‘I know!’ I said, ‘Can we buy this book
for Pavel? He’ll love it!’ We went to visit Pavel and gave him the book. He was really happy.

Part 6
Sam is talking to a dinosaur expert called Harry Brown. Read the interview
and the questions below. For each question, circle the correct answer.

Interview with a dinosaur expert

Sam: Where does the word ‘dinosaur’ come from?
Harry: It comes from two Greek words that mean ‘terrible’ and ‘reptile’. A man called Richard
Owen put them together to make the word ‘dinosaur’ in 1842. With Benjamin Hawkins,
he made the first life-size models of dinosaurs in 1851.
Sam: When you were little, did everyone in your family like dinosaurs?
Harry: My mum and dad never talked to me about dinosaurs, but my dad’s brother loved them.
He gave me my first book about dinosaurs. We still always talk about them when
we’re together.
Sam: Which dinosaur is your favourite?
Harry: That’s a difficult question to answer. When I was younger, I learned a lot about the
Iguanodon. It used its long fingers to look for food. But I think I like the Anatotitan best,
because it had a face like a duck. The Elmisaurus is an interesting dinosaur, too.
Sam: Have you travelled to many places to look for dinosaur fossils?
Harry: Yes, I found a few in India ten years ago. And I’ve been to Australia, but I didn’t find
many there. China’s a place where I’ve found many amazing ones.
Sam: Have you got any dinosaur teeth?
Harry: Lots of dinosaur experts collect dinosaur teeth. My friend has got 79! I’ve got 23 fewer
than him at the moment, but 56 isn’t too bad!
