Grade 7- STE 7 A
LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 7
I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. Define longitudinal waves.
2. Identify the direction of longitudinal waves as it travelled.
3. Appreciate the importance of waves in a real situation.
II. LEARNING TASKS
A. SUBJECT MATTER: LONGITUDINAL WAVE
1. CONCEPT
Waves – a disturbance or variation that travels through a medium,
transferring energy from one point to another without causing any permanent
displacement of the medium itself. In the context of transverse waves, the vibrating
element moves in a direction perpendicular to the direction of advance of the wave.
This motion creates a pattern of crests and troughs as the wave propagates through
the medium. Waves can be classified into different types, such as transverse waves
and longitudinal waves, based on the direction of particle displacement relative to
the direction of wave propagation.
Vibration -refers to a repetitive motion or oscillation of an object around an
equilibrium position. In the case of transverse vibration, the element moves to
and from in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the advance of the
wave. This type of motion creates transverse waves, where the particles of the
medium vibrate perpendicularly at right angles, up and down, and continue
to move in the direction of the wave.
Longitudinal wave -. A longitudinal wave is a type of wave where the particles of
the medium move back and forth in the same direction as the wave travels.

ANALYSIS
I’m glad that you really
participate in our
activity. Also, I’m happy
that you listen and answer
the questions very well.

What is the definition of
longitudinal waves? - A longitudinal wave is
a type of wave where the
particles of the medium
move back and forth in
the same direction as
the wave travels. It's like

of longitudinal waves

How does longitudinal wave
create? - Longitudinal waves are
created through the
transfer of energy in a
medium. The process
involves the generation

APPLICATION
Answers may vary.
Now, I believe that you understand
our topic very well. So, I want to
ask you a question.
-Longitudinal waves,
-For you, how important like the ones we hear as
longitudinal wave is in our sound, are important in
our everyday lives
daily life? because they help us
communicate and enjoy
music. When we talk or
play music, the sound
waves travel through
the air, making our
conversations and
favorite songs reach our
ears. So, without
longitudinal waves, it
would be quiet and hard
to share ideas or enjoy
the sounds around us.
- Very Good!
What are some real-life examples Sound Waves:
of longitudinal waves? Sound waves travel
through the air or other
mediums, creating
compressions and
rarefactions that your ears
detect.
Ultrasound Waves:
In medicine, doctors use
ultrasound waves for
imaging inside the body.
These waves are
longitudinal and help
create images of organs,
\ developing babies, and
other structures without
using harmful radiation.
Earthquakes:
Seismic waves generated
during an earthquake
include both transverse
and longitudinal waves.
The primary (P) waves are
longitudinal waves that
travel through the Earth,
causing particles in the
ground to compress and
expand.
Shock Waves:
Shock waves produced by
explosions or supersonic
objects are longitudinal
waves. The sonic boom
from a fast-moving aircraft
is an example, where the
compressed air travels as
a shock wave.
Pressure Waves in
Fluids:
Longitudinal waves are
present in fluids, such as
water or liquids in pipes.
When you turn on a water
tap, the pressure waves
created by the flowing
water travel as
longitudinal waves
through the pipes. - Very Good!
