Rectangular Slab - Midspan GL-R10-R12 (HPH-HPG)

The document provides design calculations for a post-tensioned concrete slab. It includes information on design data, moment capacity calculations, reinforcement details, and service load stresses. The slab has a 225mm depth, 9 prestressing strands, and meets the required design moment of 190 kN-m with a total flexural capacity of 352 kN-m.

DESIGN OF POST TENSIONED SLAB

Project : WIPRO Designer : JS

Floor : BASEMENT-1 Date : 05/05/2016

Location : MIDSPAN OF GL-V-U(16-17)

Calculation of Moment Resisting Capacity

According to IS:1343 - 1980 the Moment of Resistance of a section due to tendons can be

calculated as follows.

M = ƒpu Ap (d - 0.42 xu)

Where,

M - Moment Resisting Capacity of section

ƒpu - Ultimate Tensile stress in Tendon

Ap - Area of prestressing steel

d - Effective depth of section

xu - Depth of neutral axis

Design Data:

Grade of concrete ƒck = 35 N/mm2

Grade of steel ƒy = 500 N/mm2
Grade of prestressing strand ƒp = 1860 N/mm2

Overall depth of slab D = 225 mm

Width of panel B = 5600 mm

Dia of strand used = 12.7 mm

Total Number of strands IN C.S+M.S = 9 nos.

Clear cover from soffit of tendon to soffit of slab = 35 mm

Area of prestressing steel Ap = 888 mm2
Effective depth (d) = 176.0 mm

Effective reinforcement ratio (Ap * ƒp / (b * d * ƒck) = 0.048

From Table -11 of code

Stress in Tendon as a proportion of the design strength

ƒpu / (0.87 * ƒp) = 1.000

ƒpu = 1618.2

Ratio of the depth of Neutral Axis to that of the centroid of the tendon in the tension zone

xu / d = 0.104

xu = 18.371

Moment resisting capacity of section by Tendons = 242 kN-m

Reinforcement Provided 5.6M WIDTH = T8-200

Ast = 1400 mm2

Cover to Main Reinforcement = 40 mm

Effective depth to reinforcement = 185 mm

Moment resisting capacity of section by rebar 0.87

= * ƒy * Ast * d *

(1-((Ast * ƒy)/(ƒck * b * d * )))

= 110 kN-m

Design Moment at critical section = 190 kN-m

Total Flexural capacity of section = 352 kN-m

Calculation of stress @ Service:-
Area of Gross cross section A = 1E+06 mm2

Depth of Neutral axis = 112.5 mm

Section modulas zt = 5E+07 mm3

Eccentricity e = 63.5 mm

Effective force per strand = 96 kN

Total effective force @ Service P = 864 kN

Moment due to self weight = 48 kN-m

Moment due to super imposed dead load = 77 kN-m

Moment due to Live load = 7 kN-m

Secondary Moment = 9 kN-m

Moment due to Earthquake load = 0 kN-m

Combination for Limit state of serviceability = 1.0 (DL + LL + PT)

Service Moment = 141 kN-m

Stress due to direct prestress = P/A

= 0.69

Stress due to tendon eccentricity = Pe/z

= 1.16

Stress due to Applied loads = M/Z

= 2.98

Stress at extreme bottom fiber ƒt = -1.14 N/mm2

Stress at extreme top fiber ƒb = 2.51 N/mm2

Negative sign indicates Tensile stress.
