Alligators
The article which I read is about alligators and their lifestyle.
Alligators have been here since the dinosaurs became extinct. They
are one of the most cautious parents in the reptile world, staying with
their children for up to three years. They are also known to be very
smart and know how to use tools.
There are two living alligator species in the world: the American
alligator and the Chinese alligator. The alligator is often described as a
“living fossil” because when dinosaurs became extinct, the alligators
swam in the rivers. The alligator's habitat is a freshwater environment
such as rivers, swamps, marshes, and lakes. The American alligator can
be found from North Carolina to the Rio Grande in Texas. Alligators live
in pits dug in mud and soil. These pits are very important because they
have been used as shelter by other animals abandoned by alligators.
How can I tell the difference between a crocodile and an alligator?
We can tell the difference of alligators from crocodiles by the shape of
their beaks. The beak of alligators is broad U-shaped and the beak of
crocodiles is V-shaped. Many people are amazed how many teeth do
alligators have. Alligators can have up to 80 teeth at any one time. New
teeth grow to replace old ones, and an alligator can have 2,000 to 3,000
teeth over its lifetime. Many people ask if alligators are dangerous to
them. Alligator attacks are rare and unlikely with only 6 percent of
American alligator attacks causes to death. Alligators hunt smaller prey
than humans, like birds, small mammals, and other reptiles. However,
alligator attacks can be easily prevented by people. Because they can't
run fast on the ground.
Even if they look like scary, we must care about them because they
are being extinct from the earth because of humans, because of
hunters. Not only these animals, not only these animals, but other
unique animals are also on the way of extinction. So, be careful about
those animals!
