CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
This chapter describes the research study’s process and discusses the key features of research
methodologies and processes. This section also includes the analysis design, study participants, research
tools, data collection method, data collection techniques, and statistical treatment used in the study.
Research Design
In this section, it is described as how the research is designed in terms of the techniques
used for data collection, sampling strategy, and data analysis for a quantitative method research. This
research made use of quantitative non-experimental design utilizing comparative research as the
approach. The difference between two or more groups on the phenomenon being studied is examined
in comparative study. Comparative research, for example, examines the differences between men and
women when it comes to learning mathematics.
Participant and Sampling Method
The respondents of the study were composed of 25% from each gender of students who
came from different strands from the school, Cuenca Senior High School. This way, we properly assessed
the distractions commonly encountered by them during the COVID-19’s time. These students are the
subject of the study. The sampling method that’s used is called the quota sampling which needs the
number of respondents mentioned as the target population.
Research Instrument
A survey questionnaire was created and distributed by researchers to acquire relevant
information from key informants under quantitative research methodologies, utilized to collect data.
The primary data from the student-respondents are used, The study used quote a sampling approach.
The respondents’ anonymity and confidentiality will be respected.
The data will be described in such a way that they may be explained according to the scale
of measurements in this study, which we used quantitative enumeration of variables. The researchers
were able to determine the Common Distractions Amidst Distance Learning as Encountered by Senior
High students in Cuenca Senior High School when they are engaged in distance learning. We used those
levels/scales of responses in each question to assess the respondents’ views. The scale will be used as a
combination of strongly agree, agree, strongly disagree, and disagree.
Sampling Technique
In this study, we’ve chosen quota sampling as the sampling technique. A quota sampling is
a form of non-probability sampling method. This means that elements of the population are chosen at a
non-random rate, and that not everyone in the population has the same chance of being chosen for the
sample group. Also, in this kind of sampling, researchers often utilize market research software to
construct two stages to gather their sample group. First, they list relevant control characteristics and
their distribution in the target population. Second, they select elements for the sample group based on
convenience and/or judgement of the researcher. This is what differentiates quota sampling from
stratified sampling.
Ethnical Consideration
The researchers wrote a letter of permission for us to conduct the study. The letter that we
gave to the respondents has a consent form. While we are conducting the survey, we also followed all
the health protocols for the sake of the respondents and also for our safety. The researchers of the
study showed the responses of the participants. All data that are gathered by the by the respondents
are kept and compiled and for the researchers.
Data Gathering
This study will be focusing in finding the common distractions faced by the students during
distance learning while experiencing this pandemic. One study notes that one of the most common
distraction is coming from digital distraction (Sandy Botros, 2020).
The questionnaire served as the main instrument to gather data. There were 10 questions
that focused on the common distractions of all the students against distance learning. And to know their
perspective about distractions. After constructing the questions, the researcher submitted 25 questions
formed to the research adviser.
Data Gathering Tool
Rate Scale Range Interpretation
4 Strongly 3.50- 4.00 Very High
Agree
3 Agree 2.50- 3.49 High
2 Strongly 1.50- 2.49 Low
Disagree
1 Disagree 0.50- 1.49 Very Low
Table 1: Example of a Rating Scale
The study’s verbal interpretation is shown in the table. The range, scale, and verbal
interpretation scale are depicted in the above verbal interpretation. The researchers used the four-point
range scale in the questionnaire to gather particular responses, which is made up of four points: strongly
agree, agree, strongly disagree, and disagree. In addition, the researchers asked the respondents how
strongly they agree or disagree with a particular subject in order to gauge their sentiments.
