Peter Pan

Adapted from a story by James M. Barrie

If you ask your mother if she knew about Peter Pan when she is a little girl, she will
say, “Why, of course I did, child.” And if u ask her if he rode on a goat in those
days, she will say, “What a olish question to ask. Certainly he did.”
Then if you ask your grandmother if she knew about Peter Pan ten she was a girl, she
also says, “Why, of course I did, child.” it if j'ou ask her if he rode on a goat in those
days, she says that e never heard that he had a goat. Perhaps she has forgotten, just
she sometimes forgets your name and calls you Mildred which is ur mother’s name.
Goat or no goat it shows that Peter is very old but that really he always the same age.
His age is one week. When he was seven ys old he went out of the window and flew
to Kensington Gar- ns. If you think that he was the only young child who wanted to
this it shows how you have forgotten your own young days, ink very hard and you
will remember that you wanted to go back the trees just as the birds.

When Peter Pan stood on the windowsill he could see the trees in Kensington
Gardens. When he saw them he forgot that he was a little boy in pyjamas and he
started to fly. He flew over the houses to the gardens. It is wonderful that he could
fly without wings. He came down on the grass and started to play. He already didn’t
know that he was a little boy. He thought that he was a bird. When he tried to catch a
fly he couldn’t because he tried with his hand which a bird never does. He saw a lot
fairies. They were all very busy and didn’t see him. He was rsty now, so he flew to
the pond to have a drink. He tried to drink ; a bird but forgot that he didn’t have a
beak but a nose.
Then he wanted to sleep. At first it was hard to be corn- table on the branches of the
trees but soon he learnt and fell ;ep. He woke up in the night. As everybody knows
what seems a rm night to a bird is a cold night to a boy in pyjamas.
Peter wanted to talk to the fairies but to his surprise they all ran ty and hid when he
came near. They shouted, “There’s a boy in park.” Peter never thought for a moment
that he was the boy ause he was a bird. He wanted to talk to the birds but he couldn’t
find any to talk to. They all flew away. Every living thing ran away or flew away
from him. Poor little Peter Pan! He sat down and cried. But even if he thought he
was a bird he did not sit as a bird does. Happily he did not know this and so he
didn’t lose his faith in the fact that he could fly. Why can birds fly and we can’t? It
is only because they have faith, because to have faith is to have wings.
I. Word List:
To ride – ride a goat, ride a bycile, ride a horse; ride fast. She rides well. He was too old
to ride. He jumped on his horse and rode away. He is learning to ride. To ride in a bus.
Same – the same age, on the same day, at the same time, all the same.
Windowsill – on the windowsill, under the windowsill, put it on the windowsill.
Without – without withs, without food, without water, without money, without friends,
without parents, without help, without me, without him.
Thirsty – He was thirsty. Are you thirsty? I am very thirsty. They were hungry and
thirsty.
To have a drink – Will you have a drink?
Beak – This bird has a long beak. It has a fish in the beak.
To hide – hide money, hide letters, hide face. They hid the boat well. The clouds hid the
sun. The boy hid behind a tree.
As everybody knows
To his surprise
Every living thing
To lose – lose money, lose books, lose friends, lose pens, Lose keys, lose time. We
mustn’t lose a moment. You have nothing to lose. Have you lost anything? What if he
