ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
The pursuit of the professional degree in architecture brings with it the demand for integrity, for
integrity is the heart of professional practice. Your commitment to integrity begins here and the work
that is required of you. The personal commitment that you make to uphold this, not only preserve
the integrity of the degree you will earn but also honours the profession you will serve. Students will
be removed from the thesis process if involved in any of the following acts that will violate academic
integrity:

 Copying from another students works of the same college or from any other college
 Submission of a copy or modified version of an existing project / thesis project of another
college.
 Copying of another person’s designs, compositions, data, research, writings, printed
material, electronic material or original ideas. This includes even the use of parts or fragments
of someone else’s works or ideas.

YOU MUST NEVER PRESENT SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK AS YOUR OWN. STUDENTS ARE STRICTLY ADVISED
TO REFRAIN FROM DOING THIS, WHICH SHALL LEAD TO SEVERE PUNITIVE ACTION.

DOs AND DON’Ts
1. Don’t ever copy text from any published works. That is a capital offense in Dissertation. Write in
your own words. Start writing your report after the completion of every stage of reviews. Your
comprehension of the things you write can only be shown by your ability to summarize reports.
2. Don’t include photocopied texts in your SHEETS or Dissertation REPORT except as an appendix.
3. Do acknowledge and cite your source. This applies to all possible data sources including personal
interviews. This will save you a lot of effort in explaining some concepts that are not really your own
to begin with.
4. Do read and check your work. Checking includes grammar, spelling and composition.
5. Do include pictures, graphs, maps, charts and sketches. Architecture is a visual medium so always
reinforce your ideas with figures. Of course, there should be proper captions.
6. Don’t use abbreviations, and unnecessary acronyms and contractions.
7. Do make the effort to introduce new ideas, new chapters, etc. This will create a smoother flow of
your discussions.
8. Do keep back-up (send all stages progress to your email) of all study sheets and drawings etc.
