Question 5: 1B
Rectangle:
Perimeter: Side lengths added up

Length

Length x 2 + 2 x Width = Perimeter = 4.8

Length = 0.5 + width
L = 0.5 + w
2w + 2(0.5 + w) = 4.8
2w + 1 +2w = 4.8
4w = 3.8
W = 0.95 m
L = 1.45 m

2A: 4a

X = (-4, 2)
M = (0, 3)
Y = (x, y)

((-4 +x )/2 , (2 + y)/2 ) = (0, 3) - Equating

-4 + x = 0 x 2
-4 + x = 0, x = 4

2 + y = 6, y = 4

Y = (4,4)

5) (1,4) and (a,b)

(5, -1)

(1 + a)/2 = 5 , a = 9

(4 + b)/2 = -1 , b = -6

2C:
2: y = mx +c
M = gradient = 3
Y = 5, x = 0

C = y -int

X = 0 at y-int, y = 0 + c, y = c
Y = 3x + 5

Note: gradient = m, y-int = 5

6 c:
(-1, 4) and (2,3)

M = 3 – 4 divided by 2 – (-1)

M = -1/3

Y=-1/3x +c

Sub in a point: (-1,4)

4 = -1/3 (-1) + c

C = 13/3

Y = -1/3x +13/3

Use the formula to get m and sub in a point to get c

2E:

1)A

(4,-2)
PARALLEL to y = 2x + 1

Y= mx + c
Y = 2x +c
(4, -2)
-2 = 8 + c
C = -10

Y= 2x -10

M * m = -1

M = 2, m = -1/2

M1 = x, m2 = -1/x

3) a
X= 3 and passes (3, 4)
Y-value of 4

Y=4
Sketching graphs

Equation of the line: gradient and c-value y=mx +c

Plot the c value: x = 0 what does y equal (0, y) – y-intercept

X -intercept: (x,0) y= 0 what does x equal

Two points and graph a line

Linear = line = singular = x^ 1

Quadratic = x^2 = maximum power or degree of 2

Y = x^2
Y = X^2 + X + 2

3x and 2x are similar because x to the power of 1 in common

X^2 and 2x^2 to be similar because they have it to power of 2

3x^2 + 2x + 1x + x^2

3x^2 + x^2 + 2x +1x

Expansion example: (x + 3) (2x – 3)

Foil method:
X times 2x = 2x^2
3 times 2x

=2x^2 -3x +6x -9

=2x^2 +3x -9

(3x – 2)(3x + 2) = 9x^2 – 6x +6x -4

= 9x^2 – 4

X(x-y) = x^2 – xy

A^2 + ab = a(a +b)

Xy^2 (8x + 6) = 2xy^2 (4x +3)

3x^2 – 7x + 2

3x^2 -7x = x(3x – 7) + 2

(x+1)^2 – 2(x +1) – 3 = a^2 -2a -3 = (a – 3)(a + 1)

(x + 1 – 3 ) ((x+1) + 1) = (x – 2)(x + 2)

(3x – 1) (1x -2) = 3x^2 – 1x – 6x +2

X^2 – x = 12
X^2 – x – 12 = 0

Null factor theorem:

Xy = 0 either x or y = 0

1x0=0
0x1=0

(x + 1)(x -1) = 0
Ab =0

X+1 = 0 or x – 1 =0
X = -1 or x = 1

Solving quadratic equations:

X^2 – x – 12 = 0
Factorise
(x – 4)(x + 3) = 0
Solve
X = 4 or x = -3

Sketching quadratics
Curve
Dilate the graphs
Translate
Reflect

Y = x^2
Y = 2x^2

Dilate: times by 2 to get 2x^2

Translate: y = x^2 + 2

Translate in the y axis: move the graph up and down by changing the c value
Translate in the x – axis: move it left and right: y = (x – a) ^2
Right = y = (x – a) ^2
Left = y = (x + a) ^2
To reflect in the x axis: add a negative sign to the whole equation
To reflect in the y axis: add a negative sign to the x : y = (x + 2) ^2
Y = (-x+2)^2

Turning point:
(0,0) = axis of symmetry = at what point is the graph turning
