th

organizational setup. It has all the major components of studying that is finance, management,

with the Diocese of Kigezi under the Child and youth assisted projects. It is located 9km from
Kabale town along Kabale -Katuna road. The project supports children who are highly
vulnerable such as child-headed families, frail people and those who are living in absolute
poverty.
The project’s main agenda is to release children from poverty in Jesus’s name.
To enable children and Youths to acquire and apply right attitudes, values, behaviors, skills
The project seeks to achieve the following objectives through the following core programs.

twenty-two years.
To ensure knowledge and skills for the young people to help them live a responsible and
To enhance children's experience of God's love, respond to God's call, nurture children to
To enhance children's experience of God's love, respond to God's call, nurture children to
know and grow in fear of God and reach out the young people with the gospel.
Increased access to clean water: Kabahesi CDC has supported communities in the area to access
clean and safe water for drinking as well as for domestic work, compassion has also organized
workshops for the project children and parents on health issues like hand wash and water
purification for drinking which has enabled them to remain using these methods to fight on
health issues. This has had a great impact on society as it has promoted health among people in
the community.
Offering vocational skills: The project offers skills to its beneficiaries such as knitting, playing
the piano baking chapattis, mandazi wedding cakes, preparing salads, tailoring and carpentry
skills trained personnel are brought by the project to enable its beneficiaries to acquire
developmental skills. The project does this to uplift the lives of its beneficiaries.
Serving children with their basic needs of life: The project also does the service of offering basic
needs of life to the project-assisted children. Such basic needs of life include food, shelter,
clothes such as school uniforms and many others to ensure that their beneficiaries are in good
health.
1.7.1 Target Population
The project is targeting the community around Buhara Sub County and some parts of
Kamuganguzi Sub County and the main emphasis is to improve the children’s well-being. Even
the needy children, child-headed families and people living with HIV/AIDS are also considered.
Kabahesi CDC also targets children who are living in poor conditions to uplift the lives of
children in such families. Children are chosen to be part of the assisted children of CDC when
they are 1year to 5 years
After being put in Compassion, the child is taught, cared for, and supported until he or she
reaches 22 years old and exits the program. After 22 years, the child writes a completion letter to
the sponsor and leaves the program since he or she is thought to have been holistically impacted
that is spiritually, physically, socially and economically. The youth at this time of exit is thought
to be a fulfilled Christian adult and is self-supporting.
1.8. Brief History of Kabahesi CDC
Kabahesi CDC came into existence in 1997 by the church of Uganda under the help of
Compassion International Uganda. This was because by then Kabahesi CDC was composed of
illiterate ungodly people who lived in absolute poverty. Kabahesi CDC has done its level best to
ensure that people have gained skills and knowledge which has improved the living conditions of
the Kabahesi community. These skills and knowledge have been acquired through offering
education both handcraft skills and formal education. Also, the Kabahesi community which was
seen as an ungodly place before the existence of Kabahesi CDC, has now accepted the lordship
of Jesus Christ. Kabahesi CDC started majorly to improve the living conditions of the people of
Kabahesi but after having seen a great change in the Kabahesi community, it now focuses on
recruiting children who are also not among the Kabahesi community meaning that there has been
an improvement hence Kabahesi CDC has been of a benefit to the people around and within
Kabahesi.
1.9 Conclusion.
Kabahesi CDC is anon governmental organization founded by the church of Uganda diocese of
Kigezi under compassion international Uganda and as an agency, it has got the vision, mission
and objectives since its existence is of the reason. It has tried to achieve its objectives as it has
tried to uplift children’s lives and wellbeing and released children from poverty.

CHAPTER THREE
APPLICATION OF PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD
WORK PRACTICE.
3.0 Introduction
In this chapter there is professional knowledge which I applied in the field work activities, case
studies that was done, some of the professional knowledge applied/skills include; planning,
observation, listening skills, effective communication, editing, writing and reading skills,
confidentiality, guidance and counselling, delegating, directing, supervising and teaching among
others.
3.1 Level of accomplishment of duties and responsibilities assigned.
The level of accomplishment of duties and responsibilities was done in accordance with the
assignments given and attached duration of activity by my Agency supervisor at Kabahesi CDC
3.1.1 The Project Finance manager/Director
She plays majorly, three roles which are;
Planning
A project manager is responsible for formulating a project plan to meet the project’s objectives
while adhering to an approved budget and timeline.
Budgeting
The Project manager devise a budget for a project and stick to it as closely as possible. If certain
parts of the project end up costing more (or, in a perfect world, less) than anticipated, She has to
moderate the spending and reallocate funds when necessary.
Execution
The project manager participates in and supervises the successful execution of each stage of the
project. Again, this requires frequent, open communication with the project team members in this
case, the CPC members, CDO’s and the P.F.
Kabahesi CDC as an organization was very much primed to receive and manage me for field
attachment. As an organization that has always trained students, I was welcomed, oriented & and
inducted then dispatched to the department and the supervisor as earmarked in the acceptance
letter. As part of orientation, the People and Culture office held a meeting with me on 19th-
September at the Headquarters before the dawn of the Training, at the meeting, I was guided
through the internship policy, meet and greet tour around the offices and shared expectations
from the training at Kabahesi CDC.
The different activities the university engaged us in preparing us well for the field training. The
already prepared log books (appendix 1) gave a proper guide throughout my internship period in
addition my work plan that streamlined my set targets and means to achieve them was also
essential.
My weekly documented activities in the log book made the compilation of the field
attachment report effortless. Assessment and supervision was also facilitated which
helped us get fitting recommendations from the field supervisor.
The orientation meeting held before the internship period gave a true picture of the
expectations from the work place. The required guidance was given to us, which fitted
the student in the practical world.
CHAPTER FIVE
5.1Introduction
This chapter presents the conclusions and recommendations put forward basing on the
experience gained during the internship training.
My stay at Kabahesi CDC as an intern yielded a lot of success. In particular, I was able to get
exposed to the real employment setting, its necessities and challenges.
During my internship, I understood how Kabahesi CDC is structured, and what its activities are.
It was remarkable to be familiarized to how NGO’s like Kabahesi CDC operate. The field
attachment was significant in aiding me in attaining hands-on capability with work, relate the
concepts and techniques learnt to practical problem solving scenarios, meet new people and
potential employers, as well as understanding what is required in the employment world. My
field attachment discoveries have thus enabled me to fulfill the intended objectives of internship
both as a student and prospective employee.
The field attachment was a whole new undertaking into the work domain and principles that
govern it like time observance, culpability, confidentiality, mutual respect, willingness to work,
and assisting unconditionally were of the essence in comprehending and acknowledging the
ABCs of employment.
Much as there were a few challenges on and off work the field attachment period was essentially
a success.
5.2 Recommendations
Owing to the encounters in the course of the field attachment, a lot can be said about the
students, the University, as well as Kabahesi CDC. I thus vouch for the following to be
considered;
5.2.1 The university
The University has to carry on with the improvement and upgrading its curriculum to
fully suit the market dynamics. More emphasis needs to be put on the practical modules
than the theoretical concepts. This will ultimately improve on the students’ internship
performance.
Need to increase the supervisor to student ratio; many students grumble about this over
the years; the assessment may be insufficient or not there at all yet they are allotted ample
time which is displeasing.
Students need to breed a keen interest in their field of employment literature so as get
an insight prior to field attachment. The literature will also enable students to get
along easy at work and lessen consultation time; for example grow familiar with
ordinarily used software, the organizations’ literature(work and activities), to reduce
on the strain in the training and make the practice more progressive.
Students give high consideration to their internship training because it’s a prerequisite
to finishing any course as well as regarding their field supervisors together with
university supervisors and fellow students because it all contributes to the supervisor
assessment of the student.
5.2.3 To Kabahesi CDC
Kabahesi CDC staff and support staff was very supportive especially in terms of giving
information when I needed it.
The organization receives and accommodates interns well, all necessary amenities are available.
However, I recommend the Project staff to carry out sensitization programs in order to enable
proper service delivery, encouraging hard work by the caregivers and the project staff hence
achieving the organizational project goals.
5.3 CONCLUSSION
In a nut shell, I enjoyed doing my Internship at Kabahesi Child development Center. And I
commend it to whoever looking for a place of learning, would consider doing it here.
