Newsletter 13 10th March, 2023
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have enjoyed another couple of busy weeks, with lots of activities and events taking place. Yesterday, the
Dance Team performed at the Hertfordshire Dance Festival, and Year 3 went to Hertford Museum. Today, Year
1 have gone to the RAF museum. We have lots more activities to fit in before the end of term and look forward
to sharing these with you.
Dance Festival
We are so proud of our fantastic team of dancers who performed at the Hertfordshire Dance Festival yesterday.
Their behaviour and attitude throughout the day and evening was exemplary, and they were very good at
entertaining themselves during the breaks – they even brought a chess set and board! They have worked really
hard to learn and practise their routine, based on the Wizard of Oz, and have shown great commitment. Thank
you very much to Mrs Martin – choreographer and dance captain, to Miss Grainger for her support and costume
organisation, and Miss Doran for looking after the children on the day. We are also grateful to all of the staff who
came along to cheer us on, including those who have technically retired! Last, but not least, thank you very much
to their families who were super organised and punctual, and so supportive and encouraging.
Sports Hall Athletics
Congratulations to our Athletics teams who took part in the Sports Hall Athletics. In our event, the Girls’ Team
finished in 4th position and the Boys’ Team finished in First place! They worked really well together as teams,
and were very supportive and encouraging of each other. They too, have trained really hard to get to such a high
level.
Book Week
Thank you for all of the effort you put into the children’s amazing costumes for World Book Day; they looked
fantastic! The Author visits were very inspiring, and captivated the children’s interest; both praised the children
for their excellent behaviour, engagement and enthusiasm.
The Book Fair is open this week and Monday and Tuesday of next week, after school. Payments can be made by
cash or card, and World Book Day tokens can be used towards any book costing £2.99 or more. Commission is
given to the school in the form of books to add to our library. Thank you to Mrs Wood for organising these events,
Art Day
The children’s work from Art day is stunning! I have started adding pictures to the Events page on the school
website, as things go on display. Do take a look, and admire the work in the library and dining room when you
come into school for class assemblies.
Maths Success!
Huge congratulations to our Mathematicians from Years 5 and 6. Year 5 recently competed in the County Maths
Challenge, and won their way through to the final! In the National Maths Competition, Oliver BL won a bronze
medal, and Joe won a silver medal! We are very proud of them all. Thank you to Mrs Mason for organising these
events.
School Expansion
Things are continuing to progress with the building, and we are now planning the finishing touches and
landscaping. At the end of this term, Year 4 will move out of the mobile, into the first two classrooms, and the
other KS2 classes will follow in the summer term.
Today, work has started on the pump and drainage system required for the new building and field. We are
delighted that this has started, as the sooner the work is completed, the sooner the new field will be ready. In
addition, the work to widen the path running alongside Year 6 will take place. However, in the meantime, there
will be some disruption, and Year 3 and 5 will be entering and leaving the school via the double doors whilst this
happens. We will keep you updated!
PTFA
Musical Comedy Night
Thank you to everyone involved in the recent PTFA Musical Comedy Night – audience, performers and helpers!
We are very grateful to Sara Llewellyn who has driven this event, and performed so beautifully on the evening.
David, Fabienne and Annie did an amazing job producing the delicious street food, and the audience played their
part, laughing and applauding in all the right places! Thank you to all of our helpers, for setting up, and running
the event.
Mothering Sunday shopping
On the morning of March 17th, we will be selling gifts for Mothering Sunday. These will cost £3.00. Children are
able to shop as a family. If money could be brought into school in an envelope labelled with the child’s name,
that would be really helpful. If you would like to stay and help wrap and label gifts, you would be most welcome.
School Disco
There will be a school disco on 30th March, from 5.30 - 7.00 p.m. Entry is £3.00 and there will be refreshments
on sale too. Tickets can be bought in advance – on the school gateway, or on the door.
Next meeting:
28th March at 7.00p.m. in the staffroom – all parents welcome!
Maypole Dancing
Our Maypole dancers delighted us all with their fantastic performance in assembly this week – they have learnt
the dances so quickly, we have even been able to introduce some completely new ones.
Unfortunately, not all of the children had costumes to wear, as we are missing quite a few. If you have any lurking
at home, we would be very grateful if they could be returned – no questions asked!
Red Nose Day
This year we will be participating in Red Nose Day on Friday 17th March. Children may wear home clothes to
school, and are invited to bring a small donation which will be given to the charity.
Please remember that I am always happy to discuss any issues with you. Thank you for reading this newsletter.
Yours sincerely,
Liz Pollard
