Description Protocols for piping Testing

1 Visual Inspection:
Inspect the piping system for any visible damage, corrosion, or improper installation.

2 Pressure Testing:
Conduct hydrostatic testing by pressurizing the piping system with water to a
specified pressure level.
Typical range: Test pressure is typically 1.5 times the design pressure of the system.
For example, if the design pressure is 150 psi, the test pressure would be 225 psi.

3 Leak Testing:
Perform leak testing to ensure there are no leaks in the piping system under
pressure.
Typical range: Acceptance criteria typically involve maintaining the test pressure for
a specified duration (e.g., 2 hours) with no pressure drop beyond a specified limit
(e.g., 5%).

4 Flushing and Cleaning:

Flush and clean the piping system to remove debris, scale, or contaminants.
Typical range: Flush with clean water or cleaning solution at a flow rate sufficient to
remove debris and contaminants.

5 Visual Inspection After Testing:

Inspect the piping system again for any signs of leakage or damage after pressure
testing.
6 Pipe Support Inspection:
Inspect pipe supports, hangers, and anchors to ensure they are properly installed
and capable of supporting the weight of the piping system.
7 Corrosion Protection:
Verify the presence of corrosion protection measures such as coatings or cathodic
protection where applicable.
8 Thickness Measurement:
Measure the thickness of piping walls at various locations to assess corrosion or
erosion.
Typical range: Use ultrasonic thickness gauges to measure wall thickness, and
compare measurements to design specifications or baseline measurements taken
during construction.
Thickness Measurement:
Measure the thickness of piping walls at various locations to assess corrosion or
erosion.
Typical range: Use ultrasonic thickness gauges to measure wall thickness, and
compare measurements to design specifications or baseline measurements taken
during construction.

9 Non-Destructive Testing (NDT):

Perform non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT),
radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), or dye penetrant testing
(PT) to detect defects or discontinuities in welds or materials.
Typical range: Use NDT methods as per applicable standards and project
requirements.
