7, CONCEPTUAL PLAN
Mine applied area spread over a total area of 14500 m? for ease of operation. Digging
depth restricted up to 3 m only. However. pits generated by quarrying will be
replenished during rainy season. Quarrying will be worked systematically as the
width is limited while length is much more. As the lease period is only 3 years. some
of the area will be left un-worked at the end of lease period,
During plan period workings will be carried out in one stretch at a time. Scattered
workings will ensure safety. remove congestion of vehicles and will have better
control and management.
Bank side natural slope will not be disturbed, This will prevent collapse of bank and
erosion,
There will be no Soil or O°B removal during the plan period. Therefore no proposal
has been envisaged for its separate dumping. No outside material will be filled up in
the extracted zone.Mine plan of Nidhipuri Sand Quarry (e-Tender)

10. SAND REPLENISHMENT ASSESSMENT
Sand quarrying from river bed will cause degradation of land use pattern and
damage to the environment. Over exploitation of sand from river bed will
definitely affects adversely on the surrounding environmental status, Deposition
of sand is a continuous natural process, but the over drafting will never be
permitted 10 ensure the balance between exploitation and replenishment
potential of river sand.
Sand quarrying from river bed will have both positive and ney
ive impacts:
10.1 NEGATIVE IMPACT
It includes destruction of natural river course, bank erosion, bank cul
1 and
widening and deepening of river bed. Change in hydrological status and
recharging conditions. Disturbance to closely linked flora, fauna and aquatic life
10.2. POSITIVE IMPACT!
Employment and socio economic status of the habitants living besides the
fer depends on sand mining industries. Construction of concrete infrastructures,
roads and some other related activities depends on the river bed sand
Continuous accumulation of sand ultimately leads to the reduction in water
carrying capacity of the river leading excessive flood in the river. Sustainable
extraction of sand from river will lead 10 overcome the problem.
10.3 NEED FOR SAND REPLENISHMENT STUDY AND FACTORS
TO BE CONSIDERED AND OBSERVE!
Environmental status of the mined out area may be affected badly if’ proper
care is not taken to ensure sustainable extraction of sand from river bed.
Proper study of the following factors must be taken into consideration to
reveal the actual potential of sand deposition in river course after completion
of periodical excavation annually. The main factors required to be considered
for the study of the replenishment potential of particular river course are:
Formation of sand comprises of the following:
Catchment area and geological strata,
Erosion. weathering
Climatic conditions, Pre:

banks are within the range of 1.50 to 2.50m above river bed
After monsoon river flows in full swing covering both the banks
During monsoon floods the water level rises by 4 to 5 m High flood level of
river goes up 10 33010 331 min due course of time after monsoon water
channel level goes down gradually. During lean period water level maintained
at 322-321 m.
10.3.1 CATCHMENT AREA:
The upstream catchment area is more than 3575 Km? approx covering the bas
Sidhi districts and Koriya district of Chhattisgarh,
10.3.2 ORIGIN OF RIVER:
Gopad River originates from Sonhat Plateau of Chhattisgarh district, Gopad
is major tributaries of Sone River, Sone River finally flows in to Ganga River
10.3.3 DISTANCE OF TRAVELLING OF LOAD:
Gopad River course is around 242 km approx. from the origin 10 the Son River.
Distance from origin to mine site is around 143 km, ,Mine plan of Nidhipuri Sand Quarry (e-Tender)
10.3.4 SLOPE / GRADIENT / ELEVATION DIFFERENCE:
The highest clevation of Gopad River at the origin is around 710 m and the
elevation at_mine site is 326m above msl, There is an clevation difference of
around 384 m.
10.3.5 CLIMATIC CONDITIONS:
Area receives an average 1000-1100 mm of rainfall annually. Temperature 26'e to
4t"c during peak summer and 16’c to 20’c during winter season. Wind velocity
is from 10 tH km/hr
10.3.6 TRIBUTARIES / CONFLUNCE:
Several other small seasonal streamlets join the river increases the catchment
area of the main river
10.3.7 TYPE/STAGE OF RIVER AND FLOW VELOCITY:
River attains mature stage at the mine site. Flow velocity is moderate to slow. Lease
area is located on a wide meandering but with a low gradient making it suitable for send
deposition
24Mine plan of Nidhipuri Sand Quarry (e-Tender)
10.3.8 STRUCTURES:
From our study no major structures have been observed in the river course.
‘There is a rail bridge located about 4.0 Km southeast, upstream of the lease area and
constructed over river same river. No Perennial flow observed near the lease area
during summer season
10.4 CONCLUSION:
Looking at the basic information available about the concerning river basin it is
concluded that proposed quantity of 12000 cubic meter per year can be excavated
from the quarrying site and the replenishment of the same will be done easily
as regular annual process following the topographical control
Total Quarry lease area 14500 m? with 12500 m? workable area (Excluding Barrier!
Unused land) is having adequate sand accumulation, Taking an average thick
of 1.0 m the required quantity of 12000 cubic meter per year will easily be
achieved.
Above estimation is based upon existing site conditions. Next year estimation shall
be worked out after monsoon using volumetric methods. In the applied area,
replenishment depends upon the yearly rainfall, if adequate amount of sand will
not replenish during monsoon then excavation of sand will be limited to the
quantity which will be equivalent to the replenished material up to a maximum
depth of 3m only.
