Rui: One social problem that I'd like to address is homelessness. Homelessness is a complex issue with
various causes and far-reaching effects on individuals and communities.

These are the causes of the addressed problem:

Stephanie: Lack of Affordable Housing: One of the primary causes of homelessness is the lack of
affordable housing. Rising housing costs and stagnant wages make it difficult for many people to afford
stable housing.

Colleen: Economic Factors: Poverty, unemployment, and underemployment contribute significantly to

homelessness. Individuals and families living in poverty may not have the financial resources to maintain
stable housing.

Jonas: Mental Illness and Substance Abuse: Many individuals experiencing homelessness struggle with
mental illness and substance abuse issues. Without access to proper treatment and support services,
these individuals may find themselves unable to maintain housing.

Railey: Family Breakdown: Family conflicts, domestic violence, and other forms of family breakdown can
lead to homelessness, particularly among youth who may be forced to leave their homes.

Berniet: Lack of Support Services: A lack of adequate support services, including mental health care,
addiction treatment, and social services, can exacerbate homelessness by leaving individuals without the
resources they need to address underlying issues.

These causes of the adressed topis has effects on the following aspects:

Jonas: Health Risks: Homelessness is associated with numerous health risks, including malnutrition,
infectious diseases, mental health disorders, and substance abuse issues. Living on the streets or in
temporary shelters exposes individuals to unsanitary conditions and increases their vulnerability to
illness.

Colleen: Social Exclusion: Homelessness often leads to social exclusion and marginalization. Individuals
experiencing homelessness may face stigma, discrimination, and barriers to accessing employment,
education, and social services.

Railey: Cycle of Poverty: Homelessness can perpetuate a cycle of poverty, making it difficult for
individuals to escape homelessness once they become trapped in it. Without stable housing, it's
challenging to maintain employment, access education, or build financial stability.

Stephanie: Impact on Families: Homelessness can have devastating effects on families, particularly
children who may experience disruptions in their education, social development, and overall well-being.
Family homelessness can also strain relationships and lead to long-term instability.

Rui: Community Costs: Homelessness imposes significant costs on communities, including expenses
related to emergency services, healthcare, criminal justice, and social services. Addressing homelessness
is not only a moral imperative but also a practical necessity for reducing the burden on public resources.
To address homelessness effectively, it's essential to implement a comprehensive approach that
addresses the root causes of homelessness while providing support services and resources to those
experiencing homelessness. This may include initiatives such as increasing affordable housing options,
expanding access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, providing employment and
educational opportunities, and strengthening social safety nets. Additionally, fostering collaboration
between government agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community stakeholders is
crucial for implementing sustainable solutions and creating a society where homelessness is rare, brief,
and non-recurring.
