Issue daily work permits and carry out daily Tool-box Meeting with the workers to
prevent safety incidents occurring.
Coordinate with the Contractor to establish daily works progress as indicated in the
method statement.
• Immediately inform the Contractor when requiring initial work inspection if the equipment
installation are as per approved shop drawings and method statement.
• Coordinate with other contractor if there are any concerned related to the work location.
• Check daily all the tools and equipment to be used in an activity to prevent any safety
incidents (use daily checklists).
• Ensure work place is kept organized and clean at all times. All tools and equipment to
be stored properly to prevent their deterioration and any safety incidents.
• Implement the ZERO ACCIDENT PROGRAM follow HSE recommendations.
Preparation Works
• Check and verify the indicated site condition.
• Provide all necessary approved work permits before starting work.
• Check that all the dampers and silencers are free from any damage and free from any
foreign materials before taking it to site.
• Check all the dampers, silencers, grilles, diffusers and louvers against the technical
specification and approved by the Project Consultant before taking it to site.
• Check all the tools to be used, ensure that they are in good working order. The Site
Supervisor and Foreman will also check that tools and equipment are available to carry
out the work and are in compliance with contract specification.
• Mark the position of the devices as indicated in the approved drawings.
• Provide appropriate safety signs and barricades around the working area.
• Ensure workers are wearing the required mandatory protective clothing, equipment and
other additional safety equipment necessary prior to execution of work.
• Ensure that scaffolding equipment are safe to use or marked "green" by safety
department (when the installation requires such equipment).
Method Statement for Installation of Dampers, Silencers, Grilles, Diffusers and Louvers
• After all the preparation works had been completed, installation of dampers, silencers,
grilles, diffusers and louvers shall commence.
• Before installation, check for any physical damages on the dampers and also the
attached motor actuator.
Determine the exact position and location of the motorized fire damper, Motorized fire
Pageduct
and smoke damper to be fixed on the 23 or on the wall from the approved drawings.
M-ANM-300000-CMAC-MST-000005_Rev A
• For duct installation, fix the MFD/MFSD with flange or nut/bolt and apply duct sealant.
For wall installation, fix the MFD/MFSD situated within the thickness of the wall and
taking into consideration the free movement of the motor actuator linkage.
• Examine the location for requirement of installation tolerances and clearances as
specified in the approved drawings.
• Provide duct access door for internal access of the MFD/MFSD.
• External indication shall be provided to BACS to indicate MFD/MFSD "open" and
motorized fire damper "closed".
Preparation:
Page 24 M-ANM-300000-CMAC-MST-000005_Rev A
• Check the schedules for proper damper locations within the building. Visually inspect
the damper for damage.
• Lift or handle damper using sleeve or frame. Do not lift damper using blades, linkage,
actuators, or jack-shafting. When handling multiple sections assemblies, use sufficient
support to evenly lift at each section mullion (see drawing). Do not drag, step on, apply
excessive bending, twisting, or racking.
Do not install screws in damper frame that will interfere with unexposed blade linkage
and prevent damper blades from opening and/or closing.
• Damper must be installed into duct or opening square and free of twist or other
misalignment. Damper must not be squeezed or stretched into duct or opening. Out of
square, racked, twisted or misaligned installations can cause excessive leakage and/or
torque requirements to exceed damper/actuator design.
• Damper and actuator must be kept clean, dry and protected from dirt, dust and other
foreign materials prior to and after installation. Examples of such foreign materials
include but are not limited to:
a) Mortar dust
b) Drywall dust
c) Fire-saving materials
d) Wall texture
e) Paint overspray
Installation:
• Damper assemblies may require bracing to support the weight of the assembly and to
hold against system pressure. It is recommended to have appropriate bracing to support
the damper horizontally.
• Support ductwork in area of damper to prevent sagging due to damper weight. Cycle the
dampers by hand before installation to ensure freedom of movement.
Method Statement for Installation of Dampers, Silencers, Grilles, Diffusers and Louvers
• The damper sections must be attached together with #10 x ¾in. (19mm) max. Sheet
metal screws, ¼ in. (6mm) diameter nuts and bolts, tack or spot welds, or 3/16 in.
(4mm) diameter steel pop rivets.
Duct opening or opening Square should measure 1/4 inch (6mm) larger than damper
dimension and should be straight and level.
• If no holes are present in frame, drill 1/4 inch (6mm) diameter holes at 6 inch (52mm)
centers and fasten frames together with 1/4 inch (6mm) #20 (.03mm) bolts and nuts.
• Use shims between damper frame and duct opening or opening space to prevent
distortion of frame by fasteners holding it in place. Brace at every horizontal mullion and
vertically brace at every 8 feet of damper width for strength. Dampers in high velocity
(2000 fpm [610m per second]) mayPage 25 M-ANM-300000-CMAC-MST-000005_Rev A
require more bracing. Attachment, framing, mating
flanges, and anchoring of damper assemblies into openings, ductwork, or walls is the
responsibility of the installer.
If damper actuator is to be mounted out of the air stream, the extension pin should
extend approximately 4 inches (100mm) beyond the frame. On jack shafted units, the
jackshaft should extend through the jackshaft bearing assembly and approximately, 6
inches (152mm) beyond the frame.
• Individual damper sections, as well as entire multiple section assemblies must be
completely square and free from racking, twisting, or bending. Measure diagonally from
upper corners to opposite lower corners of each section. Damper blades, axles, and
linkage must operate without binding. Before system operation, cycle dampers open &
close.
IN-LINE MOUNT
• Mount the face plate on the damper by means of the 10-32 x 1/4'' round head
machine screws supplied. Be sure that the bearing extending through the face
plate clears the hole in the face plate. 2-Cut a 1-1/4" slot in the discharge duct. Be
careful to cut the slot on the correct side of the duct so the damper will open away
Page 26 M-ANM-300000-CMAC-MST-000005_Rev A
from the main duct. This is important as the damper swings open in one direction
only. 3-Secure face plate to ductwork with 6 x 3/8'' sheet metal screws provided.
Page 27 M-ANM-300000-CMAC-MST-000005_Rev A
Ensure that all ductwork and insulation have been inspected and signed off by the Project
Consultant prior to the installation of diffusers and grilles to the HVAC ducting system.
• Ensure that plenum or terminal box openings are compatible for the diffusers and grilles
to be installed.
• Ensure that Volume Control Dampers, where required, are installed including concealed
adjustment devices, which should be accessible without dismantling any plant, these will
be shown on the as- built drawings and in general will be incorporated within the
component that will have all internal sections painted matt-black.
• Prior to installation of grilles and diffusers, ensure that Plenums are correctly insulated
according to the project specification.
• During unpacking of the grilles and diffusers, care will be taken to avoid damage to the
finished face of the grilles and diffusers and if any damage is noticed, the HVAC
Foreman will inform the Site Engineer to get the replacement.
• All grilles and diffusers will be checked against the relevant schedules by the HVAC
Foreman prior to the commencement of installation, ensuring they are of the correct
type and size as reviewed and approved by the Project Consultant.

accordance with the contract requirements and manufacturer’s recommendations.
