IV. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity
Preliminary Activity • Opening Prayer
“Our Father . . . , Amen.”

• Greetings
“Good Morning Class.”

• Checking of attendance
“Who is absent today? May I request the class
secretary to list down the names of those who
are absent today and pass it to me after the
class.”

• Setting of Classroom Standard

"Before we begin our lesson, let us recall what to
do during classes."
Classroom Rules: The 5P's
1. Be Prepared
2. Be Positive
3. Be Respectful
4. Be Productive
5. Be Participative
1. Reviewing previous lesson or “So now, based from our discussion yesterday, I want
presenting the new lesson. you to identify the numbers of combinations of the
given situations below using tree diagram or listing
method.”
 In how many ways you can answer a True or
False test items if there are 5 items only?
(Note: For section Newton and Galelei)

 In how many ways you can choose your outfit if

you have black pants, and blue pants, 3 choices
of shirts (red, white and yellow), and 2 pairs of
shoes (doll shoes and rubber shoes)?
(Note: For section Einstein)
2. Establishing a purpose for the Learning Objectives:
lesson At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
1. Derive the formula for finding the number of
combinations of n objects taken r at a time.

Motivation!!
 The class will group into 2.
 Each group will choose 5 representatives.
Spelling: Spell the word/s that will spoke by the
teacher.
1. Combinations
2. Repetition
3. Arrangements
4. Possibilities
5. Factorial
3. Presenting illustrative For youths, basketball tournaments are the most
examples/ instances of the awaited activity in each barangay. But during this
lesson pandemic, health protocols deem it unnecessary to
conduct such activity, so barangay shifted from online
tournaments. One of the common tournaments is the
Mobile Legends. Who among you here knows how to
play Mobile Legends?

Do you know these ML heroes?

Have you joined a ML tournament before?

There is a group of 7 ML players: Ana, Ben, Tim, Jea,

Arn Juls, Mark. A team consisting of 5 players is to be
formed. In how many ways can we do so?

Do you have any idea how we can solve this?

Permutation tells us about the ways on how to arrange

things in order. In choosing 5 players, are we
considering the order?
To solve this, we are going to use the concept of
Combination.
4. Discussing the new concepts A combination is a subset of a larger set of objects refer
and practicing new skills #1 to the number of ways we can choose items in any
order. Order is not important.

In permutation, we look for the number of ways in

arranging things. In combination, we look for number of
ways in choosing items

In combination, we use the formula,

n!
C(n ,r )= where 𝒏 ≥ 𝒓 ≥ 𝟎
r ! ( n−r ) !
where:
C ( n , r ) = number of combinations
n = total number of objects in the set
r = number of choosing objects from the set

The number of combinations of n objects taken r at a

time is denoted by:
n
C (n , r ), nCr , C nr or ( )
r

To further analyze this, let’s have this problem, and this

time we will use the combination formula.
Given 5 letters: A, B C, D, E
Take 2 letters at a time.

What is our formula again for combination?

What is the value of our n and r ?

n = 5, r = 2
We substitute our given in the formula
5!
C(5 ,2) =
2 ! ( 5−2 ) !
Our final answer will be?
Yes, it is 10.

Now let us go back to our ML Players. What are we

going to do to solve this?
Since we are choosing players for a team, we will use
combination.
What is the value of our n and r?
r=5;n=7
Now, substitute the values of n and r in our formula and
simplify.
7!
C(7 ,5 )=
5 ! ( 7−5 ) !
7!
C (7 ,5 )= = 21
5! (2 ) !
Therefore, there are 21 ways to choose 5 players for
the Mobile Legends Tournament.
5. Discussing new concept and Illustrative Examples:
new skills # 2 7!
1. C(7,3)=
3! (7−3 ) !
7 ∙6 ∙ 5 ∙ 4 ∙3 ∙ 2 ∙1
C(7,3)=
3 ∙2 ∙ 1∙ 4 ∙3 ∙ 2∙ 1
C(7,3)= 35

8!
2. C(8,2)=
2! ( 8−2 ) !
8 ∙7 ∙ 6 ∙5 ∙ 4 ∙ 3 ∙ 2∙ 1
C(8,2)=
2 ∙1 ∙ 6∙ 5 ∙ 4 ∙ 3∙ 2 ∙1
C(8,2)= 28
6. Developing mastery For you to master what we just learned, You are going
(guides formative assessment) to work with your study buddies (by pair) to solve for
our activity.

Activity 5: Flex that Brain!

Find the unknown in each item.

1. C(8,3)=____
2. C(n,4)= 15
3. C(8,r)= 28
4. C(9,9)=____
5. C(n,3)= 35

7. Making Generalizations and Okay, so again, what is the formula for finding the
abstraction about the lesson number of combinations of n objects taken r at a time?

8. Finding Practical applications of How will relate combination into real-life situation?
concepts and skills in daily
living How do the concepts off combination help you as a
student?
9. Evaluation of Learning Evaluate the following:

1. C(9,3)
2. C(10,3)
3. C(12,12)
4. ❑8 C 6
5. ❑4 C2

10. Additional activities for Directions:

application or remediation Write your answer and solution on a 1/4 sheet of paper.
