Importance of voting in elections
Living in a democratic country has its advantages: a view on equality, power for the people, and
the freedom of choice. But as these advantages constantly benefit us, we should also shoulder
the responsibilities that come along with us, which are the elections.
Elections have always been a big deal in the history of the Philippines, after all, it is the process
of choosing leaders who are in the utmost capability of serving the country and leading it
towards improvement. As this is a big deal, it is embedded in our rights as fellow citizens in the
country to practice this critical act and do it with the country's fate in mind.
The election would be just as small as a day, but its impacts will affect the days going forward.
Every decision that is made during this important day has the power to shift the country into
something good or something bad, especially the sectors or factors that we commonly
encounter in our daily lives such as food prices, transportation status, the country’s economy,
handling of taxes and funds, and safety. Furthermore, voting is the only power we have as
citizens to make a change in the country, and practicing the art of voting by directly participating
is a respect to that privilege— given that we critically assessed each candidate and voted for the
one that is fitting for the position.
Having a choice is a privilege that not all people have, and so we must protect our rights, our
safety, our country, and ourselves with the only power we have that is enough to make a shift in
the machine. With voting, we can empower ourselves and our country for the better.
