OSGOODS-SCHRAMM’ S COMMUNICATION MODEL
Why is it called OSGOOD-SCHRAMM MODEL?
Osgood- named by Charles Egerton Osgood
Schramm- named by Wilbur lang Schramm
- Have you ever heard this kind of communication? Or any model of
communication that matter?
- Communicating is done in a day-to-day like in so many mundane ways that we
don’t often get to think of complexity of it.
- Today we will be tackling the model communication that made by OSGOOD and
SCHRAMM
- First of all, we have MESSAGE which is what a person is trying to communicate
Example: you wanted to text a friend HEY! WANT TO EAT OUT LATER? Inviting
them to lunch is the message you want to tell them.
- Second is the ENCODER the encoder is the person who sends the message or
where the message originates. From the previous example since you are the one
who sent the message you are the one who’s intitled to be the encoder.
- DECODER is the person who receives the message in this example your friend
is the person who received the message, as the message was addressed to him,
he is the decoder.
- Lasty the interpreter is the one who tries to analyze or understand the message.
You may be wondering why are there three rules when there are only two people
talk? Well, these rules are not so much as rules as they are the PROCESS
- In the example earlier you are the encoder who sent the text message and
your friend is the decoder who received the text message after these we must
analyze the text message what does it mean.
- There are a lot of advantages to this communication
1. Dynamic or it shows how a situation can change
2. Shows why redundancy is an essential part of communicating.
3. Shows that the sender and receiver can be the same person
4. Shows that communication is circular in nature
5. Lastly, shows that feedback is very important in communication
- There is also Disadvantages
1. It does not have the concept of semantic noise
-semantic noise is what happens when the sender and receiver have different
meaning.
2. assumes that the moment of encoding and decoding does not happen
simultaneously, which is often not the case with the face to faces of course
people can talk at the same time or over each other and misunderstandings still
can be made which is not illustrated in this model.
- Overall the Osgoods- schramm model is a good model that illustrates feedback a
concept that is left out in some earlier models of communication it could however
as with all things use some fine

3. Discuss the roles of the Japanese, the Americans, and the Filipinos in World War II.
Answer: Nine hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor (the Philippines are on the Asian
side of the international date line), the Empire of Japan launched an attack on the
Commonwealth of the Philippines on December 8, 1941. The Philippines were under
American authority at the time, and there were significant American military bases there,
despite the fact that it was run by a semi-independent commonwealth government. The
Battles of Bataan and Corregidor in April 1942 saw the joint American-Filipino force
fall, while rebel action against the Japanese persisted all through the conflict. The
resistance was led by uncaptured Filipino army forces, a communist uprising, and
assisting American operatives. The Japanese never colonized many of the smaller and
more insignificant islands because there were so many of them. The extent of Japanese
control over rural areas and smaller towns was frequently shaky at best.
4. What is the importance of Eastern Sunday in Holy Week? What do you think in the connection between
Holy Week and the Fall of Battan?
Answer: Because Easter completes Holy Week, which concludes with Jesus' resurrection,
it is considered the most important holiday in the Catholic Church. Easter serves as a
reminder to Catholics that Jesus has triumphed over sin and death. The connection
between the Holy Week and the Fallen Bataan is about the sacrifice that has happened in
the Holy Week. Jesus sacrificed his life for our sin, and while the Fallen Bataan also
sacrificed their lives for our peace, we all knew how hard they fought.

8. Do you think the Filipino is worth dying for? Why or why not?
Answer: Depending on the circumstances, some of them are and the majority are not. The
majority of Filipinos have an inflated feeling of "Pinoy Pride," and I believe this is the
main factor contributing to our society's drop. Too arrogant to acknowledge errors or
accept fresh information. We tend to forget that we're not all that unique because we take
our identity as Filipinos too seriously.
Answer: The president's inaugural address to the nation is an example of the first speech
someone delivers when beginning a significant new position. An inaugural event is the
first in a series of planned events, such as the archaeological society's inaugural
conference. First things first inaugural. (2023).
