This method statement is made to enumerate the procedure of installation of
curb Stone as per the project specifications and also to ensure safety procedures
involved in the execution of the activity, according to the requirements

The latest project specification and the site safety procedures shall be used as
references and are part of this method statement in the execution of the work.

Concrete
3 GENERAL
Curb Stone
Concrete curb Stones are obtained from Client / Owner-approved suppliers.
Based on the IFC drawings, Concrete curb stone size shall be selected and used
at the site.
Damaged curb stones shall not be used and to be rejected at the site.
Portland cement
Ordinary Portland cement shall be used as per ASTM C150 specifications.
Sand
Sand for curb stone fixing mortar shall conform to ASTM C144 specifications.
Water
Water shall be clean, potable, and free from injurious amounts of any
substances that may be deleterious to mortar or metal in the masonry.

Laying Concrete (Bedding)
Bedding Concrete shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C476, ASTM
C404, and ACI 530.
Bedding Concrete shall be batch mixed on-site according to the requirement of
the usage.
The mix proportions shall be as per the following table

Measuring Box for Mixing
The mixing proportion shall be as per ASTM C270 and ACI 530 standards.
The Measuring box size for mixing Cement and Sand, in preparation for
Mortar for Kerb stone is calculated as per the following,
The Bulk Density of ordinary Portland cement = 1505 Kgs/M3.
The Ordinary Portland cement per bag = 50 Kgs.
The Bulk Density of ordinary Portland cement per bag (50 / 1505 x 1) =
0.033M3.
The Steel or Wooden Box Size volume = 0.033M3.
The Size of the box {(√3 (0.033)} = 0.37M x 0.30M x 0.30M

5 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
5.1 Project Manager
The Site Manager shall be responsible for providing his site teams with appropriate
resources to ensure that works are done by the project safety and quality standards.
5.2 Construction Manager
He is responsible for a multitude of tasks. He shall review the project activities in
depth and manage the construction schedule effectively and efficiently. He is the
responsible person to lead the construction crew as per project requirements.
5.3 Civil / Building Superintendent
The Civil / Building Superintendent shall be responsible for the overall direction,
monitoring coordination, and control of all the activities related to the curb stone
installation works. He shall be responsible for encouraging the workforce to safe and
productive working culture. He shall be dealing with site supervisor teams to
implement work in the correct procedure at the site.
5.4 Surveyor
He is a trained professional in understanding and interpreting drawings, data, and
survey measurements. He is authorized to assess drawing plans to ensure that they are
compliant with site regulations. He is also responsible for preparing survey reports.
5.5 Civil Supervisor
The Civil Supervisor shall be directly involved in the supervision, planning, and
execution of all activities. He shall be responsible for the preparation of the work plan
before the commencement of work.
5.7 QA/QC Manager
The QA/QC Manager shall be responsible for ensuring that all works are by the
approved drawings and specification requirements as well as the implementation of
quality control procedures. He is responsible for reviewing/preparing ITP and Method
Statements.

5.8 QA/QC Supervisor / Inspector
The QA/QC Supervisor / Inspector shall be responsible for the necessary inspections
and testing to be carried out during the activities.
5.9 Work Permit Coordinator
The work Permit Coordinator shall be the authorized person for all the work permit-
related activities and he shall be responsible. He shall be the responsible person for
guiding and granting work permits for all site activities. He should ensure that all
safety precautions are followed and maintained at work. Any deviation will mean a
temporary stoppage of work until all safety requirements are met.
5.10 Foreman
The Foreman shall be responsible in his discipline for the direct execution of the curb
Stone Installation activities according to the plan. He shall directly control and instruct
the working personnel. He shall also ensure that works are performed with proper
tools/equipment, PPE, and good housekeeping around the working area.
5.11 HSE Manager / Supervisor
HSE Manager / Supervisor shall review each activity based on JHA for the activity,
submitted along with the work permit for approval before the work. He shall ensure
that a safe working plan and work permits submitted to the Client safety department
must be implemented and observed during the concerned activity.
6 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
All equipment and tools being mobilized on site will be certified and in good and
running condition. The following are the equipment and tools to be used.

Curb stone laying area shall be marked as per the latest drawing.
Curb stone shall be laid on the soil compacted base course material.
Bedding Material Mix: Individual cementation materials and aggregates stored
at the job site shall be mixed in a mechanical mixer for a minimum of 5 min.
with sufficient water to achieve the desired consistency.
The prepared material shall be spread as a bedding layer on the road base
course surface and be leveled uniformly at 75 to 100mm thickness, to maintain
consistent elevation on the top surface.
The concrete curb stone shall be laid above the bedding mortar in a straight,
regular course. Care shall be taken to avoid curb stone wetting before
installation.
Face curb stone joints are pointed using the same bed mortar mix with neat
flushing and uniform thickness

Placing time of bedding concrete material shall be 11/2 hours from introducing
water in the mixture and before the initial set.
Curb stones shall be cut uniformly by a grinding machine and provided for the
places where full stones are not possible.
Curb stones shall be laid straight and aligned both horizontally and vertically.
Curing for block work walls is carried out for 7 days.

All the points as per Clause 7.1 shall be the same for the installation of
Concrete curb Stone and non-parking areas.
Only the size of the curb stone will vary. To be used on the locations where the
difference between the Top of the curb and the Top of the Asphalt Surface
exceeds 300mm.
These 500mm Height curb stones are considered for withstanding the
movement of the roller during asphalt compaction.
Safety Considerations
Proper Housekeeping shall be maintained around the working area. Curbstone
debris and waste concrete materials shall be disposed of immediately.
All working personnel shall be provided with necessary Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE).
All the electrical equipment shall be cabled safely and properly.
Good artificial lighting shall be provided for areas where natural lighting is not
sufficient.

Loose handling of curb stones is avoided and safe working practices shall be
introduced.
Heavy equipment operations shall be carefully watched for not hitting and
collapsing the curb stone unit.
8 INSPECTION
The QC Inspectors of the Subcontractor, Client, and OWNER representatives shall
carry out the necessary tests and inspections for curb stone installation and generate
the RFI maintain the record as per the approved Inspection and Test Plan, Latest
Drawings, International Standards, Project Specification and this Method statement.
All the tests shall be performed by an authorized third-party laboratory.
9 SAFETY ACTION PLAN
9.1 Subcontractor safety supervisor shall carry out the safety site
inspections to ensure that safety requirements laid out in the safe work plan are
followed during and after the curb Stone laying works. The safety Manager /
Supervisor shall review the Safety Action Plan and secure the Work Permit if
necessary before the start of any activities.
9.2 Equipment, tools, and materials inspection.
9.3 All equipment for curb stone laying tee repair works shall have to be
inspected by the Subcontractor Safety Manager / Supervisor before forwarding
to the Client safety department inspection before use at the site to ensure their
safety at work.
9.4 Permit to work (PTW) document is properly mentioned with enough
description and shall be submitted to the Client for approval before execution.
9.5 According to the nature of the work Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) shall be
used and filled every day together with the toolbox meeting and shall be
attached to the PTW and be available in the PTW Box.
9.6 Enough working spaces will be provided and the enter/exit access.
Proper barricading safety signboards and emergency equipment were
introduced. A designated safety person shall monitor and act throughout the
whole work activity.
9.7 During the curb stone laying procedure, first the area shall be under safety
work area for
the whole duration of the activity. All the precautionary measures shall be

taken considering the probability of an emergency. In hospitalization cases,
ambulance will be provided.
9.8 Emergency exit point, assembly area, emergency evacuation plan, and
emergency numbers shall be posted on the boards at the site.
