what are the 4c's of specification explain each

Conciseness - Avoid wordiness, specification must be direct to the point


Clarity - Easily understood by even the layman or workers
Completeness - Specification has all necessary information to install/act upon the task
Correctness - Information provided should coincide with the drawings, standards, technical aspects,
etc.
differentiate imperative from indicative mode
The imperative mode is considered as the simple format suitable for installation actions and may be
more coherent and concise for the benefit of the layman and workers
Ex. Soak wall tile thoroughly in clean water before setting.
Indicative mode may cause confusion due to its wordiness but is the most common format
Ex. The wall tile shall be soaked thoroughly in clean water before setting.
do you use the words will and shall in specification
Both words are used but in different context or ways. Will refers more on to action taken be the
architect and owner, more administrative in function. Shall is used to refer to the contractor and
product supplier during the installation work itself
The CSI 3 part section format? explain each
General - Deals with the preliminary information that encompasses the construction method and
work
Product/Material - Deals with specifying the materials that the project will utilize
Execution of Work - Deals with the actions taken in completing the project, installation, construction,
etc.

A MasterFormat is a system of categorized and sequenced list for construction specifications
developed by CSI used to classify construction requirements based upon each specific section, i.e
Sitework, Concrete, etc. May be divided by 16 or 49 depending on the version stipulated
