Anger
My subject for the project is anger. I have struggled with anger in the biggest part of my
teenage life. At first, I was not able to control anger but with time I have learned how to control
anger. I will analyze anger using three different humanities’ lens. An example of a poem that will
be used to explore the theme of anger is, “A Poison Tree” by William Blake which was
published in 1794. I found the example in a collection of poems about anger in the Discover
Poetry.com. The poem is relevant to this assignment since it depicts the theme of anger and its
consequences which I have been experiencing in my teenage life. . The speaker uses the
metaphor tree to demonstrate how anger grows and a poisoned fruit to explain the results of
anger that the enemy faces once they eat the poisoned fruit. I will use a comparison analysis
method to utilize the poem’s information whereby I will compare my life of anger with the
poet’s views on anger. I will ask myself questions like; would I forgive an individual who brings
anger to me? Would I speak to anyone about my anger and forgive my enemy?

Figure 1: Aggression 1(Vilutis)
An example of art that will be used to explore the theme of anger is, “Aggression 1” by
Mikalojus Povilas Vilutis and was created in 1979 in Lithuania. I found the example in Google
Arts & Culture and it is a collection of MO Museum in form of silkscreen with dimensions of
4/30, 39,5 x 32,5 cm. the painting is relevant to my assignment since it depicts series of anger in
the artist’s life and how the anger mixed with the feeling of loneliness causes aggression. The
lines surrounding the painting demonstrate annoying and angry thoughts and the lines only
appear on the shoulders, tongue, and heart showing where the anger is directed. I will uses the
example to perform a deeper analysis of self concept on the anger ask myself questions like;
Does my anger lead to aggression? Does my anger causes a feeling of loneliness which might
stimulate aggression? Which parts of my body are affected most by anger thoughts?
An example of a film that will be used to review the theme of anger is the “Nil by
Mouth” by Gary Oldman and was released in 1997 in South London. I found the movie in Reddit
Surname 3
recommended as one of the best movies about anger. The movie is relevant to my assignment
since it explores the topic of anger and how it is relates with things like alcoholism and domestic
violence. Ray Winstone, the main character shows his internal struggles with anger emotions by
committing violent acts in his midlife crisis; the character’s consequences of anger can be
compared to my life experiences of anger. The example will also provide a better understanding
of anger and how dangerous it can be. I can use self questioning and comparison concepts to talk
about anger through the film. For instance, I can ask myself this question; do I express my anger
through violent acts? What are the consequences of anger in my life? Has it pushed me to the
extent of doing things like abusing of drugs and causing violence? I can compare my anger with
that of the main character in the film; what do I do different from the main character in
expressing anger?
