REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Foreign Literature

The previous study examined whether there is any significant difference in

the students’ perception of accounting career. The study has been conducted

with 90 students pursuing post-graduation in Panjab University in 2014. The

results do not show any significant difference between male and female students’

perception in accounting career choice. This study also examined students’

perception on important criteria in salary, determination, and factors which they

perceive to be important in the chosen career. The results provided useful

insights to relevant institutions in formulating plans to overcome gender

differences in perception on accounting career (Khanna, 2015).

Local Literature

Foreign Study
The term "career" has origins in both French and Latin. The occupational,

commercial, or industrial activity that a person may choose to engage in during

his or her school life, in another part of their lives, or up until their death is

defined as a career by Ahmed, Sharif, and Ahmad (2017). It also makes clear

that a person's career is the application of their knowledge and abilities, giving

them control over their profession, access to timely work expertise, and a

foundation for building and strengthening business networks.

This study explores several issues which have been linked with influencing a

student’s attitude toward the accounting profession. These issues include the

factors that influence their choice of career, their decision to pursue a career in

accounting, perceptions of the accounting profession and timing of the career

decision. The study will also take into consideration the criticisms of accounting

education which have received a lot of attention in related literature, and the

decline in the popularity of accounting for leaving certificates.

Local Studies

There are several factors that cause students to pick their strand, one

main reason is their parents. The parents influence the decision on how to
pursue their life in college. The disadvantage to this scenario is they will dictate

their future and they will need to follow that. The other problem is that their

parents will have compared them to other family members regarding what they

achieved in life. According to Carpio 2018, it cannot be denied that parents, most

of the time, want to have a say on what is the “right,” “best,” or “most practical”

course.
