(Karen goes to the counter, takes a sip from her drink, drinks again, and then complains)
Karen: Are you kidding me? You got my order wrong, I want a refund now!
(Bernadet listened to what she said, looked at Karen’s drink and checked the list of the customer’s
orders. She then responds to Karen with a smiling face)
Bernadet: Sorry ma’am, but I’m sure that we got your order exactly right and we can’t refund you
since you’ve already took a sip on it.
Karen: Are you deaf? Where is your manager? you need to call your manager now or else I’ll call the
police!
(Karen proceeds to look around, wondering where is the manager. The manager heard the quarrel,
followed where the noise is and goes to the counter)
Manager: What seems to be the problem here?
(Karen asks to confirm if, is, she really the manager)

Karen: Well, your cashier here got my order wrong and I want a refund!
(The manager looked disappointedly at Bernadet but Bernadet tries to reason out to her)
Bernadet: But ma’am, she already drank it…
(Then the manager responds to Karen while looking at Bernadet angrily)
Manager: Okay, fine, we’ll refund you so that you’ll stop quarelling about it.
(Bernadet followed what her manager said and refunds Karen, Karen then leaves proudly. After that
Bernadet tries to convince the manager that she wasn’t wrong)
Bernadet: Ma’am, let me just clarify, I didn’t get her order wrong, in fact I checked the list of the
orders and looked at her drink, maybe she forgot what she really meant.
(Manager listened to her but is still disappointed and responds to Bernadet out of anger)
Manager: Gosh, Bernadet, you should have said so earlier. I've had enough of you, you're fired! You
have to leave now.
(Bernadet nods her head and responds to the manager willingly)
Bernadet: Okay ma’am, I’ll leave.
(Bernadet knowing that the Manager is also facing other problems, left and just smiled despite the
situation)

Father: Don’t mind, why are you home late? Go make dinner!
(Bernadet knowing that she actually came home early, looked confused but proceeds to do what her

Bernadet: Dad, come and eat, I’ve finished cooking food.
(Her father went to the dining table carrying an alcohol bottle while Bernadet went to the living room

Father: Why are you cleaning those bottles? I haven’t finished drinking yet.
(Her father went to her and aggressively slapped her)
Bernadet: Oww!
(Bernadet knowing that her father is drunk just fell down and cried then proceeds to go to her room.
While her father went back to the dining table and ate the food. After some time, she started doing her

she positively talked through herself, with tears in her eyes yet tries to smile)
Bernadet: Just stop crying Bernadet, you still need to finish this and remember what your mother
has told you. You can do this and I know you’ll be able to finish this!
Narrator: Flashback to when her mom was on a hospital bed 5 years ago who was about to die.
Bernadet: Mom! Don’t leave me, please stay.
(Bernadet said repeatingly while crying)
Mother: Bernadet, please, you must listen to me.
(Bernadet stopped and looked at her ready to listen)
Mother: I know that as soon as I die, you’ll struggle in your life without me, you have to remember
some people can’t believe in themselves until someone else believes in them first, know that I believe
in you. I know you’ll be stong and independent yourself one day. Whatever problems you may face, I
know you’ll find a way, just smile and you will be okay.

THIRD SCENE (Bestfriend encouragement): 2:00-3:00
Narrator: While Bernadet was in the middle of complying her college tasks, her bestfriend Junalo
suddenly calls her and greets her excitedly)
Junalo: Hey Bern!
(Bernadet heard her and responds unenthusiastically)
Bernadet: Hey Nalu…
Junalo: Why does your voice sound like that? Were you crying earlier?
Bernadet: No, I didn’t, why would I cry? In fact I’m eager to finish my tasks for tonight. Anyway,
what do you want to tell me earlier?
(Junalo responds to Bernadet’s question persuasively)
Junalo: Oh, well, I was thinking we’ll hang out tomorrow at my place, maybe you can tell me what
happened to you and we’ll figure it out together.
(Bernadet smiled and responds to Junalo’s question undoubtedly)
Bernadet: Okay, sure, anything for you and thank you!
Narrator: After that day, Junalu and Bernadet talked together for a very long time. They laughed
and cried a few times, they talked about their problems and how they’ve been feeling and that made
Bernadet feel better knowing that she wasn't experiencing this alone… Just because a person smiles
all the time, doesn’t mean their happy, that smile is actually a symbol of hope and strength. No matter
what people are going through, there’s always a solution. And that solution could just be a smile.
