The script on the bowl is Tibetan and is a mantra known as MaNe or the six syllable MaNe mantra. In Tibetan belief, this mantra can invoke inner compassion and kindness towards all beings including oneself. The meaning of each syllable in the mantra is explained in relation to Buddhist concepts like the six realms, five wisdoms, purification of negative emotions and aspirations to be reborn in enlightened realms.
