Answer the following problems. Your decision if you will solve every problem or not.
No need to write the solutions in any clean sheet of paper. I will not collect your solutions
This will be your guide on your graded recitation next week.
Absent during recitation means “ZERO” in recitation.
Each one of you will take turn in solving problems for your recitation.
You are only allowed to use calculators during our meeting. NO USING OF CELLPHONES OR
EXTRA SHEETS OF PAPERS.
Each one of you will solve on the board in order for me to grade you from 1-40 as your scores in your
recitation.

DIRECTION: Use some strategies or formulas in solving the problems

1. In a public opinion poll, 624 people from a sample of 1,100 indicated they would vote for a specific
candidate. How many votes can the candidate expect to receive from a population of 40,000?
2. Two planes are 1620 miles apart and are traveling toward each other. One plane is travelling 120 mph
faster than the other plane. The planes meet in 1.5 h. Find the speed of each plane.
3. Divide $80 among three people so that the second will have twice as much as the first, and the third will
have $5 less than the second. How much each person has?
4. The area of square is 225cm². What is the perimeter in millimeters?
5. Anne paid P400 for a blouse. If the blouse was sold at a 20% discount, what was the original price?
6. Paula is twice as old as Queenie. Seven years ago, the sum of their ages was 16. How old is Queenie
now?
7. A truck is carrying mango juice, tomato juice, and passion fruit juice bottles in a ratio of 4 : 4 : 3. If
there are 1020 passion fruit juice bottles, then how many juice bottles in total are there?
8. This was $14 less than twice what she spent for a blouse. How much was the blouse?
9. There are two numbers whose sum is 72. One number is twice the other. What are the numbers?
10. A freight train starts from Los Angeles and heads for Chicago at 40 mph. Two hours later a passenger
train leaves the same station for Chicago traveling 60 mph. How long before the passenger train
overtakes the freight train?
11. Mary’s father is four times as old as Mary. Five years ago, he was seven times as old. How old is each
now?
12. If Machine X can produce 1000 bolts in 4 hours and Machine Y can produce 1000 bolts in 5 hours, in
how many hours can Machines X and Y, working together at these constant rates, produce 1000 bolts?
13. A pump can fill a 750-gallon tank in 35 minutes. How long will it take to fill a 1000-gallon tank with
this same pump?
14. The weights of 4 children are 80, 85, 90, and 75 lbs. What is the average weight, in pounds, of the four
children?
15. Among the two supplementary angles, the measure of the larger angle is 36° more than the measure of
smaller. Find their measures
16. My mother is 12 years more than twice my age. After 8 years, my mother’s age will be 20 years less
than three times my age. Find my age and my mother’s age.
17. It takes 6 workers, 24 hours to build an emergency flood barrier. The wall needs to be built in 8 hours.
How many workers are needed to build the same emergency flood barrier in 8 hours?
18. 20 people take 36 days to build a house. How many days would it take 60 people to build the same
house?
19. Find sides of a rectangle whose smaller side is 12 meter smaller than longer side? If perimeter is 36
meters.
20. A spinner has 4 equal sectors colored yellow, blue, green, and red. What are the chances of landing on
blue after spinning the spinner?
21. A glass jar contains 1 red, 3 green, 2 blue and 4 yellow marbles. If a single marble is chosen at random
from the jar, what is the probability of each outcome?
22. Suppose that a canteen offers 3 different meals (vegetables, fried chicken & pork steak) and 2 different
rice (white rice & brown rice). Anna is confused on what to eat. Help her find how many ways she can
choose her meal.
23. Patrick has a problem regarding her gifts for her girlfriend. He chooses 3 teddy bears with different
colors (pink, purple, & brown) and 2 chocolates with different flavors (dairy milk & Toblerone). How
many ways can he make his choices?
24. One of your birthday wishes is to have a branded bag. You want to give yourself a present so you went
to the mall and you saw the following options given below. How many choices can you make?

29. The player of a trivia game receives 100 points for each correct answer and loses 25 points for each
incorrect answer. Leona answered a total of 30 questions and scored a total of 2,125 points.
30. At Beans & Bagels, a bagel costs $1 more than a cup of coffee. If 4 cups of coffee and 6 bagels cost $31,
How much is each bean and bagels?
31. Walter and Helen are asked to paint a house. Walter can paint the house by himself in 12 hours and
Helen can paint the house by herself in 16 hours. How long would it take to paint the house if they
worked together?
32. Tom and Jerry have to stuff and mail 1000 envelopes for a new marketing campaign. Jerry can do the
job alone in 6 hours. If Tom helps, they can get the job done in 4 hours. How long would it take Tom to
do the job by himself?
33. The ages of the three siblings can be expressed in the ratio 3 : 5 : 7. If the sum of their ages is 75, how
old is the youngest among the three?
34. Two sides of a triangle measure 37 dm and 58 dm, respectively. If the perimeter of the triangle is 174
dm, how long is the third side?
35. Clariz is 2 kg heavier than her younger sister and she is 3 kg lighter than her older sister. Given the total
mass of the 3 girls, what is the mass of Clariz in terms of kg?
36. In a right triangle, the length of the longer leg is twice as much as the shorter leg. If the longer leg
measures 10 cm, how long is its hypotenuse?
37. Allen jogged around a circular swimming pool with a diameter of 20 meters. What is the total distance
of what he covered while jogging a lap?
38. If 560 out of 700 examinees passed in the recent career service exam for Sub-Professional level, what
percent of the examinees passed?
39. In the classroom of Ms. Kanya, the desks are organized in equal rows. Jocelyn sits in the desk that is
second from the front and fourth from the back. There is one desk on the right and three on the left of
Jocelyn’s desk. How many desks are in the room?
40. Lolita, Brad, Jocelyn, and Armida were recently elected as the new officers (president, vice president,
secretary and treasurer) of the Castro Foundation. From the following clues, determine which position
each hold.
 Armida is younger that the president but older than the treasurer.
 Lolita and the secretary are both the same age, and they are the youngest members of the group.
 Jocelyn and the secretary are next-door neighbors.
For items 41-45: There are 150 college freshmen who were interviewed. 85 were registered for a math class, 70
were registered for an English class and 50 were registered for both math and English. From the following
clues, create a Venn diagram and answer the following questions.

For item 46-50: A survey of faculty and students at the University of Cagayan Valley revealed the following
