Write a weather report

GRADE 4
Grade 4 English Home Language Term 2 Weeks 1& 2: What is the weather doing? Writing: Writes information text e.g. weather chart PAGE 10
Name:

1. Write a weather report for your area and present it as an oral to your group
Work with a friend and write a weather report for your area. Remember that
weather report writing has its own format which is precise, to the point and
delivers facts and predictions using weather vocabulary.
How to write your weather report
a) A weather report article usually includes a description of current weather
conditions along with a weather forecast for the next 24 hours.
The information you provide might include temperature, humidity, precipitation
amount, rainfall predictions, wind speed and direction.
b) Mention the average high and low
temperatures for the time of the year.
c) Display your own version of a
satellite map of your region. Point
out any storm systems or pressure
fronts in the area to explain why
the forecast is for a certain kind of
weather, such as rain or unusually
high winds. Also mention any
approaching weather patterns.
d) Give an extended forecast for the
next few days. For each day, you
can state the expected high and low temperature; the chance of precipitation;
the general expected conditions, such as mostly sunny, cold and clear, or partly
cloudy; and any other warnings, such as gusting winds, fires or possible flooding.
Present your weather forecast
With your friend, give a short (no longer than three minutes) weather forecast to
your group. Ask yourselves these questions:
• Are we getting the main message across?
• Are we speaking slowly and clearly?
• Do we have a map and are we interacting with it?
• Are we keeping to time?
