B. Learning Procedure
a. Motivation
(FACT or BLUFF)
Kindly get a sheet of paper. Write fact if the
statement is true and bluff if the statement is not
true.
a) If BE is perpendicular to AD at D, Then they
form right angles.
b) An angle formed by two perpendicular lines
is acute.
c) Perpendicular lines are two lines that
intersect to form right angles.
d) If two angles are right, then they are
congruent.
e) Two adjacent triangles have common side.
(Students answer may vary)
b. Activity
“THE POLYGONS ARE SINKING” (Students answer may vary)
Selected students will form the polygons using the
given number of sides by moving their body parts.
1. 4-sided polygon
2. 6-sided polygon
3. 8-sided polygon
c. Analysis
1. What kind of polygon did you formed?
2. Can you give an example of the polygon
formed in real life?
d. Abstraction
The interior angle of a convex polygon is strictly less
than 180°. A polygon, with at least one interior
angle, is greater than 180° is called a non-convex
polygon or concave polygon. Sum of all the interior
angles of a polygon of n sides = (n – 2)180°.
EXAMPLE:
Find the sum of the interior angle of the
regular hexagon.
Since hexagon is a 6-sided polygon, therefore
n=6.
Substituting the value of n.
(n-2)180°)
= (6-2) (180°)
= (4) (180°)
=720°
In finding the measure of one interior angle we use
(n-2)(180°)/n wherein n is the number of sides of a
regular polygon.
EXAMPLE:
Find the measure of one interior angle of the
regular pentagon.
n= 5
Substituting the value of n.
(n-2) (180°)/n
= (5-2) (180°)/5
= (3) (180°)/5
= 540°/5
=108°
Therefore, the measure of one interior angle of a
regular pentagon is 108.
The exterior angle sum theorem states that the sum
of the exterior angles of a convex polygon is 360°. If
a convex polygon is regular with “n” number of
sides, then each exterior angle of a convex polygon
is measured as 360°/n.
EXAMPLE:
Find the measure of one exterior angle of
the regular hexagon.
Since the sum of the exterior angle of a regular
polygon 360°, we will divide the sum by the number
of sides of the given polygon.
n= 5
Substituting the value of n.
360°/n
= 360°/5
= 72° or
m∠1+m∠2+m∠3+m∠4+m∠+5=360°
x+x+x+x+x= 360°
5x=360°
x=72
Therefore, the measure of one exterior angle of a
regular pentagon is 72°.
e. Application
(Group Activity)
a. Create a map of the area assigned to your
group.
b. Using the appropriate assigned area as (Students answer may vary)
vertices, your group shall come up with a
polygon with number of sides according to
your group’s agreement.
c. Draw the map in the upper half of a manila
paper. Use your creativity in your illustration.
d. Name all the interior and exterior angles
with small letters; and vertices with capital
letters.
e. On the lower half of the manila paper,
indicate the following:
i. Measurement of each interior angle
ii. Measurement of each exterior angle
iii. Sum of all interior angles
