LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET
Learning Competency with Code: Evaluate one’s worth in terms of values/character
[LS5DS-ID-PSA-BL-LE-AE-LS-AS-2.1]
Background Information for Learners:
What Is Self-Worth and How to Evaluate Yours
Self-worth is simply defined as the level of
importance you place on yourself. It is an
emotional outlook that determines how and
what you feel about yourself in comparison to
other people.
Self-worth is what keeps you satisfied even if
all your achievements, assets, and possessions
are taken away from you. The moment you
reach healthy levels of self-worth, life becomes
much more meaningful.
Take a moment to think about what you
value:
1. Respect. How do you think people should treat each other? What do you
consider to be respectable behaviors in all kinds of setting?
2. Honesty. What role does honesty play in your work relationships? How does
honesty help or hinder a relationship? When do you think it is important to be
honest and speak up for what’s true?
3. Empathy. Do you think you know what others are really going through? Are you
sure you’re not making false assumptions about them? Do you take the time to
read the non-verbal cues along with the verbal ones? How important is it to
understand one another?
4. Responsibility. What are you asked to complete on your own? Which tasks are
people relying on you to finish? What expectations do you have for others and
vice versa?
5. Work. What is your work ethic? When does it go too far? When is it not going far
enough? What does your workplace need to give you in order to support your
work ethic? What do you need to give to the workplace to support its work ethic?
6. Self-Compassion. When you make a mistake, do you think beating yourself will
really help? Did you really mean to make an error or were you just human? Do
you believe that you would try harder next time without being so hard on yourself
that your self-esteem is hurt that badly?
7. Community. What contribution do you offer the community? What do you expect
from the community in return? Is your community respecting your values? Do
they respect your individuality? Do you respect theirs? Which improvements can
you suggest in a calm and respectful way?
8. Friendship. What do you owe your friends? Do they respect your needs? Do
they respect your goals? Do they respect your sensitivities or convictions? Do
they give you the space to be yourself? Do you give it to them?
9. Artistic Integrity. Are you true to your artistic vision? Are you creating what
matters to you? Are you giving up too much? Are you giving yourself the space
to develop your abilities so that they reflect who you really are?
10. Being Happy. How much do you respect your right to be happy? What about
other people’s right to be happy? How can you be happy together? How
important is it to you to have the opportunity to make yourself happy?
Valuing yourself is the first step to any achievement. Your values, beliefs and
preferences are important because living by them is the only way to make yourself feel
happy.
Some tips on how to value yourself:
You can compare yourself to others. It’s not about being judgmental, but rather seeing
how you’re different compared to others around you. This approach also helps you
appreciate diversity among your peers.
Make an effort to follow your heart. Society, peers and media will pressure you to like
one thing over another. Take the time to look for what really works for you. Does it really
conflict with your environment or were just afraid that it might?
Listen to your feelings. When you do what works for you, a wave of relief ensues. Or,
you just might feel particularly happy about the approach you’re taking. Your feelings give
big clues as to whether you’re on the right path.
Challenge your negative beliefs. Whenever you feel you ought to do something in a
particular way, ask yourself if it’s really making a positive difference in your life. If not, then
value yourself by making like easier and happier.
Activity 1
People who know their strengths and use them every day tend to be happier, have better
self-esteem, and are more likely to complete their goals. This exercise will help you enter
the strength-spotting mindset.
Activity 2
Values are the things you believe are most important. Values help to determine your
priorities in life, and heavily influence decision-making. For example, a person who values
wealth might priorities their career, while a person who values family might try to spend
more time at home. When a person’s actions do not match their values (e.g., valuing
family, but working a lot), they may become discontent.
Values are often passed down by family, and the society you live in. To begin exploring
your own values, think about the values of the people who surround you.
Activity 3
People also feel valued if they are being appreciated no matter how big or small. Making
the practice of gratitude a regular part of your day can build happiness and self-esteem,
thus, self-worth. This activity will help you start practicing gratitude. (5 pts)
THANK YOU LETTER

someone who you would like to thank. Write a letter that describes why you appreciate them, including
specific examples and details.
