1.0 Introduction:
Maintenance is a set of organized activities that are carried out in order to keep an item in its best
operational condition with minimum cost acquired. Activities of maintenance function could be
either repair or replacement activities, which are necessary for an item to reach its acceptable
productivity condition and these activities, should be carried out with a minimum possible cost.
Different machine tools are utilized to perform the maintenance activities.
In this experiment, we observed different machine tools functions.
2.0 Objectives:
➢ To know about the various machine tools used in machine maintenance
➢ To learn about the function of the tools
➢ To know about the types of the tools
3.0 Name of the tools:
❖ Hammer: A hammer is a tool, most often a hand tool, consisting of a weighted "head" fixed
to a long handle that is swung to deliver an impact to a small area of an object.
Function: To give Shape
Types:
Claw hammer Joiner’s hammer Ball pein hammer Lump hammer
❖ Slide Wrench: An adjustable wrench, also known as an adjustable spanner or crescent, is used
to turn or loosen a nut or bolt.
Function: Tightening and opening bolt.
Types:

Open ended Box ended Combination of both
❖ Pliers: Pliers, hand-operated tool for holding and gripping small articles or for bending and
cutting wire. Slip-joint pliers have grooved jaws, and the pivot hole in one member is elongated
so that the member can pivot in either of two positions in order to grasp objects of different
size in the most effective way. On some pliers the jaws have a portion that can cut soft wire
and nails.
Types:
Crimping pliers Diagonal pliers Hose Clamp pliers
Needle Nose pliers Slip Joint pliers
❖ Hacksaw: A fine-tooth saw with a blade under tension in a frame that is used for cutting hard
materials (such as metal).
Function: Used for cutting.
Types of saws:
Back saw Coping saw Bow saw Hack Saw
❖ Chisel:
A chisel is a tool with a characteristically shaped cutting edge (such that wood chisels have lent
part of their name to a particular grind) of blade on its end, for carving or cutting a hard material
such as wood, stone, or metal by hand, struck with a mallet, or mechanical power.
Function: Shaping, Cutting.

❖ File:
A file is a tool used to remove fine amounts of material from a workpiece. It is common
in woodworking, metalworking, and other similar trade and hobby tasks.
Function: Used for shaping.
Types:
Diamond files Needle files Riffler files
❖ Clamp:
A clamp is a fastening device used to hold or secure objects tightly together to prevent movement
or separation through the application of inward pressure.
Function: Used for gripping.
Types:
C Clamp F Clamp Surgical clamp

4.0 Tools & Equipments used in Knitting section:
1. Electronic balance:
An Electronic balance (often called a "lab balance") is a class of balance designed to measure
small mass in the sub-milligram range. The measuring pan of an analytical balance (0.1 mg or
better) is inside a transparent enclosure with doors so that dust does not collect and so any air
currents in the room do not affect the balance's operation.
Digital balance Mechanical balance
Function:
➢ Used to measure weight.
2. Measuring tapes:
A tape measure or measuring tape is a flexible ruler and used to measure distance.
Types:
Plastic tape Metal tape Dual scale Stanly tape
Function:
➢ Used to measure length, width or distance.
3. GSM cutter:
GSM means grams per square meter of a knit, woven or non woven fabric. It is essential to know
the weight of the fabric before manufacturing and after getting the finished fabric. It needs to
measure the weight of the fabric to be sure about the finished weight of the fabric.

Function:
➢ Used to measure the weight if the fabric.
4. Inspection machine:
The main objective of inspection is the detection of the defects and nonconformance's as early as
possible in the manufacturing process so that time and money are not wasted later on in either
correcting the defect or writing off defective garments.
Inspection machine
Function:
➢ To inspect the defects.
5. L Key:
For fitting the cam box and other machine parts as well as tightening or loosening of nuts & bolts
some L-keys are used.
Types:
T type L key T type L key I type Key Allen key
6. Screwdriver: A tool, manual or powered, used for turning screws. A typical simple screwdriver
has a handle and a shaft, ending in a tip the user puts into the screw head before turning the handle.

5.0 Conclusion:
Having done this experiment, it is acknowledged of different tools and equipment. For doing
maintenance work, tools are very important. Because without tools machine parts can not be
repaired or replaced. So we can say that this experiment has greater importance in the industries.
As a result, it is very essential to learn about these machine tools fully.
