Past Perfect

 When she came, her friend had already left. –

 I was so thirsty. I had not drunk anything since last night. –
subordinators), зокрема з after, as soon as, before, until, when.
Mary changed her lifestyle after she had inherited a fortune from her grandmother. –

The mother scolded her son as soon as his friends had gone. –

прислівники already, ever, for, just, never, before, since.
When she met Rupert, he had already divorced. –

We arrived in Valencia. I had never been there before.

вживаються until, then, by that time. Порівняйте з present perfect:
(present perfect): I haven’t chosen a dress yet.

(past perfect): I hadn’t chosen a dress by 2 P.M.
