BOP Rubber Temperature Performance Guide

This document provides temperature performance ratings for various types of rubber components used in blowout preventers (BOPs). It lists the continuous and extreme temperature ranges in both Fahrenheit and Celsius that ram packers, annular packers, and seals made from materials like standard rubber, T-SL rubber, UltraTemp rubber, nitrile rubber, natural rubber, and neoprene can withstand. It notes that temperature ratings need to consider multiple environmental and operational factors and may not reflect all conditions.

Notes
Cameron
There is no industry accepted methode of formally rating packers and seals. These are
estimates based on lab testing and field performance. Temperature ratings for rubber
components must take into account the environmental exposure history, the mechanical
loading history, the chemical environment while at temperature, and other factors.
Therefore, a single number rating can be misleading if all conditions are not understood.

Hydril
Neoprene has better cold temperature elasticity than nitrile rubber but, it is detrimentally a
efected by extended high temperature applications.

Schaffer
Schaffer refers to their UltraTemp Rams which withstood 13 hrs of 350 F (177 C)
and 15000 psi (1050 bar)

*)Nitrile Rubber are Standard for KCA Deutag due to best oil resistance of this type
