1.1 Self-esteem is how we value and perceive ourselves.
Its based on our opinions and beliefs about our self which can
feel difficult to change.
Your self-esteem can affect whether you like and value yourself as a person
1.2NEGATIVE
- Constant exposure to images of seemingly perfect individuals can lead
young people to develop unrealistic expectations about their own
appearance and life achievements
-Their mental perception of what they look like can become distorted
leading them to engage in risk behaviors when they feel like they don’t
measure up to the impossible goal set in front of them
POSITIVE
-It brings awareness to mental illnesses and helps them understand
their emotions better and what could be the cause of what they are feeling
-It promotes self love which encourages people to focus on themselves
and the things that they enjoy
1.3 The difference between the two is that self-esteem is a subjective sense
of personal worth or value. It includes beliefs about oneself, such
as “i am worthy, as well as emotional states like pride, despair, shame and
triumph
Self-development is the process of learning new things and building new skills.
It involves the conscious pursuit of personal growth through improving
personal knowledge and talents
1.4 They are more likely to take advice from an influencer than a regular adult
that they know because there will be lots of other people taking the same
advice and people can share their opinions on it
They will also want to fit in with other people their age on social media
and will try and dress similar or behave in a certain manner to feel included
and this is how trends are created/set
1.5 Media often portrays unrealistic standards of beauty and success and this
constant exposure may cause individuals to question their worth and
appearance which then results in a negative self-esteem
However, the media can also boost our self-esteem in many ways:
It can promote self love and body positivity and seeing these types of things
on the media will let us know that we are not alone and that our bodies are
special and should be loved no matter what, which will then result in us learning
to love our body and take care of ourselves
