The equilibrium relation is given by Y= 15 X. where Y and X are mole of SO 2 per mole of air and moles
of SO2 per moles of water. Given that packed height of tower is 0.42 m, calculate the height of transfer
unit.
9) A packed tower is designed to recover 98% CO2 from a gas mixture containing 10% CO 2 and 90% air
using water. A relation y = 14x can be used for equilibrium conditions where, y = kg CO2/ kg dry air and x
=kg CO2/ kg water.The water to gas rate is kept 30% more than the minimum value. Calculate the height
of the tower if (HTU)OG is 1 meter.

hr. the critical moisture is 10 % and the equilibrium moisture is 0.2%. Calculate the total drying time, if
the falling rate is linear in moisture content. What is the drying rate when the moisture content is 5% ? All
moisture concentration is expressed on dry basis.
8) A slab of paper pulp 100cmx100cmx1.5cm is to be dried under constant drying conditions from 66.7%
to 30% moisture. The value of equilibrium moisture for material is 0.5%.If critical moisture content is
60% and the rate of drying at the critical point is 1.5 kg/hr m2, calculate the drying time. The dry weight
of each slab is 2.5 kg. All the moisture content is on wet basis.
