speaking to one person” (thevoiceoverguide.com), meaning being fluent in this job is a
must to become an effective Copy Editor.
Copy editing is a tough job, wherein the editor’s hands, eyes, and brain should
always cooperate perfectly. It is the process of correcting misspelled words, the
appropriate usage of numbers, symbols and punctuation marks, proper order of
sentences and paragraph and most especially checking the grammar if it is used
properly.
Those persons, who are under this job, are highly paid for their credibility and
capability as an editor. Being the editor needs enough knowledge about copy editing as
well as being aware of the grammar and of the exact words that expresses the idea of
the author. Aside from that the editor is liable for any mistake that has done by the
author upon the text which is being published. The editor is also the one who prevents
the embarrassing errors of fact, alerts the publisher to any possible legal problems and
ensures that the typesetter can do a good job. (Sfep “Society for Editors and

A Copy Editor helps the authors to ensure that their prose is clear, compelling
and correct. They are also the people who make sure that the words written in a specific
paper, articles or books can be easily understand by the readers. Editors are hired to
improve the flow and overall writing of a story or text.
This educational study aims to arouse the interest of each individual to become fully
aware of copy editing and how it is being conducted before printing a certain text. The
process of copy editing is hardly tested to justify the ideas being presented by the
author. The Copy Editor took the full responsibility of correcting the errors of the author.
The researchers believe that identifying possible factors on how to copy edit will
be a big help to become an effective Copy Editor.
This research is to comply for one of the requirements in the course, EdSeng 11
“Translation and Editing of Text” for 3 rd year Education major in English Students. The
researches made this so that everyone who might be reading this could have an insight
how does a Copy Reader works and how it is different from a Proof Reader which is
often interchange and misinterpret, and how being a Copy Editor could help them with
their studies but also with their daily lives. But most important this paper is, to give
accurate, specific and liable information regarding the symbols of copy reading and a
few techniques that can be used by the next batch of students; this research study aims
to make the next students life easier.
Providing enough information and training about the focus of this educational
research will serve as a tool for those individual more specifically students to improve
themselves as a copy editor which will give them an opportunity for a job which is
considered to be a highly paid one.
